Job summary

A regional food distribution organization is seeking a CDL A Driver responsible for transporting products and unloading/loading vehicles to support food distribution. The ideal candidate has a valid CDL, strong communication skills, and at least one year of commercial driving experience. This position demands adherence to safety regulations and requires lifting up to 50 lbs individually. Flexible work schedules and travel within a 13-county service area are essential.

Qualifications

  • At least one year of commercial driving experience required.
  • Experience with warehouse equipment preferred.
  • Experience with DOT/FMCSA regulations is expected.
  • DVIR and ELD tracking familiarity is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication as it relates to the job.
  • Must be customer-centric for internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Transport products and unload/load vehicles for the Food Bank.
  • Maintain vehicle and equipment logs accurately.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Maintain and protect all property entrusted to you in excellent condition.
  • Operate manual and electric pallet jacks to load and unload freight/products up to 50+ pounds unassisted.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle and equipment records and logs.
  • Report vehicle and equipment for proper service to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and agency rules.
  • Detect and eliminate safety hazards.
  • Represent NTFB in the community as an ambassador of our values and mission.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Driver – CDL A is responsible for transporting product in addition to unloading and loading vehicles in support of the Food Bank.

Education/Certification

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) - Class A
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Understand DOT and FMCSA regulations
  • Working knowledge of Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) and ELD tracking
  • Strong verbal and written communication as it relates to the job
  • Must be customer-centric for both internal and external customers
Experience
  • One year of commercial driving experience
  • Experience with warehouse equipment (rider jack and forklift) preferred
Principle Duties And Responsibilities
  • Complete DVIR and utilize ELD tracking
  • Provide outstanding customer service during delivery and pickup operations
  • Maintain all required certifications by DOT, FMCSA, OSHA and company safety programs
  • Maintain and protect all property entrusted to you in excellent condition
  • Operate manual and electric pallet jacks to load and off-load freight/products up to 50+ pounds unassisted
  • Maintain accurate vehicle and equipment records and logs
  • Report vehicle and equipment for proper service in a timely manner to minimize downtime
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines
  • Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards
  • Effectively represent NTFB in the community, as an ambassador of our values and mission
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned

  • The person in this position needs to be able to read; communicate verbally and/or in written form; remember and analyze certain information and remember and understand certain instructions or guidelines.
  • The person in this position needs to adapt well in the face of workplace stressors such as customer complaints, compliance offenses, meeting deadlines and maintaining the safety of people and property.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger; handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Individual will be subjected to prolonged sitting and driving
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs. individually, and up to 100 lbs. with the assistance of appropriate equipment and/or co-worker(s)
  • Must be able to successfully operate manual and electric pallet jacks and other warehouse support equipment, following completion of required training.
Environmental Factors
  • Moderate to loud noise (e.g., medium to heavy traffic in the warehouse with forklifts and pallet jacks)
  • Travel required within our 13-county service area and occasionally outside the area
  • Work schedule is Monday-Friday with occasional Saturdays; typically work the morning shift, but must be flexible with work schedule
  • Must be able to non-hazardous weather conditions, year-round, and in varying internal (hot and cold) temperature levels in the warehouse
