Position Overview
Through education and driving skills development, become proficient in the operation of a tractor trailer combination, picking up and delivering trailers between service centers and/or turn-point locations. Responsibilities may include non-driving duties such as forklift operation and working the dock.
Essential Functions
- Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks
- Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
- Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
- Maintain accurate daily logs
- Verify and complete required documentation and reports
- Communicate with and follow Dispatch instructions regarding events including, but not limited to, delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc., as required
- Comply with hazardous material regulations and company procedures, and confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments, as required
- Demonstrate internal and external customer service
- Perform job duties of a city driver or freight handler where operationally necessary
- Perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck where necessary
- Chain vehicle tires, as required
- Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures

Qualifications
- Must possess a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP)
- Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
- Must meet all DOT regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations
- Ability to count and perform basic math
- Basic written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to hook up and break down trailers requiring an approximate lift force of 100 pounds, multiple times a day
- Ability to sit for extended periods, and perform physical activities like bending, twisting, squatting, climbing
- Ability to follow instructions and complete training
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Working Conditions
- Drive long distances in various weather conditions
- Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials
- Hours may vary; overnight stays may be required

Starting Rate of Pay: $26.06/hour
