POSITION OVERVIEW:
Become proficient in operating tractor trailer combinations through education and skills development. Responsibilities include non-driving duties such as forklift operation and dock work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and straight trucks.
- Perform safety inspections before and after trips, including equipment checks.
- Hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies from tractors and trailers.
- Handle freight using motorized and manual equipment like forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
- Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and ropes.
- Recoup or repair damaged freight as needed.
- Complete required documentation and reports accurately.
- Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation.
- Follow hazardous material regulations, ensure proper placarding for hazmat shipments.
- Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, or equipment issues.
- Provide internal and external customer service.
- Coordinate with customers for pick-up and delivery needs.
- Identify potential new business opportunities and refer leads to sales.
- Perform duties of a road driver or freight handler when necessary.
- Chain vehicle tires as required.
- Comply with all laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Possess a Class A CDL or CLP before starting.
- Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Meet DOT regulatory requirements (Section 391).
- Basic math skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds repeatedly and perform physical tasks.
- Ability to sit for long periods, bend, twist, and climb in/out of trucks.
- Work independently or in a team.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Drive in various weather conditions, day and night.
- Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials.
- Hours may vary based on operational needs.
Additional Details:
Starting Rate of Pay: $24.89/hour
