Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Become proficient in operating tractor trailer combinations through education and skills development. Responsibilities include non-driving duties such as forklift operation and dock work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and straight trucks.
  2. Perform safety inspections before and after trips, including equipment checks.
  3. Hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies from tractors and trailers.
  4. Handle freight using motorized and manual equipment like forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
  5. Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and ropes.
  6. Recoup or repair damaged freight as needed.
  7. Complete required documentation and reports accurately.
  8. Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation.
  9. Follow hazardous material regulations, ensure proper placarding for hazmat shipments.
  10. Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, or equipment issues.
  11. Provide internal and external customer service.
  12. Coordinate with customers for pick-up and delivery needs.
  13. Identify potential new business opportunities and refer leads to sales.
  14. Perform duties of a road driver or freight handler when necessary.
  15. Chain vehicle tires as required.
  16. Comply with all laws, regulations, and company policies.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a Class A CDL or CLP before starting.
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Meet DOT regulatory requirements (Section 391).
  • Basic math skills and ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds repeatedly and perform physical tasks.
  • Ability to sit for long periods, bend, twist, and climb in/out of trucks.
  • Work independently or in a team.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Drive in various weather conditions, day and night.
  • Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials.
  • Hours may vary based on operational needs.

Additional Details:

Starting Rate of Pay: $24.89/hour
