JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Driver I - ( Part-Time)

PROGRAM: Temporary Assistance for Needy Families

DIVISION: Temporary Assistance for Needy Families

DEPARTMENT: Transportation

REPORTS TO: Transportation Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

Salary : $19.93 per hour non-negotiable

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Transportation Manager, (“Manager”) this position will primarily focus on transporting clients and passengers to and from designated location for TANF purposes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Including but not limited to the following duties and responsibilities.

  • Transport clients that include minors
  • Follow road safety rules and regulations
  • Directs & instructs passengers regarding safety for the purpose of enforcing rules, regulations, laws and safety
  • Adhere to applicable TANF, Tribal, and State laws, policies, and procedures
  • Adhere to dress code, including wearing a uniform
  • Utilize path finding software such as GPS or Google Maps to determine appropriate route to destination
  • Document and track a variety of logs and records relating to vehicle usage, service, fuel, and mileage
  • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort
  • Maintain TANF vehicles, both interiors and exterior, including filling gas tanks, washing, and checkups
  • Issue violation strikes to clients for pick up- no shows
  • Communicate department and program information with parents and TANF staff, as needed
  • Act as chaperone for children and cover for other staff, as needed
  • Act as lead driver to assist Manager in day to day duties, as needed
  • Deliver packages and other items, as needed

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate GED/HiSET and (1) year of experience transporting

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: To perform and to continue to be qualified for this position, the requirements listed below must be met at a time of hire or may be obtained within a specific amount of time depending on the position requirements. Costs for required certifications, licenses, and registration are to be covered by employee, unless offered by the Tribe.

  • Must have prior to hiring and maintain throughout employment, a valid California Class C driver’s license and maintain insurability under the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Requires GSA defensive driving training every two (2) years
  • Requires driver to be at least 21 years of age in order to transport minors
  • Requires regular contact with or control over Indian children and is therefore subject to the background investigative process to comply with P.L. 101-630
  • Requires throughout employment maintaining a Mandated Reporting Certificate of Training
  • Requires throughout employment maintaining a CPR/AED/First Aid Card or Certification

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

TMDCI Member/Indian Preference Policy:

The Tribe shall, to the greatest extent feasible, give preference in employment to Indian applicants who meet the required qualifications in accordance with applicable law, including the TERO Ordinance. “Indian preference in employment” as used in policy, applies in all aspects of the employment relationship including, hiring, termination of employment, promotion, training, and related issues.
