Job Summary

The driver will operate a variety of vehicles to include, but not limited to, a multi-passenger van, a wheelchair accessible van or bus. The driver will be responsible for transporting ambulatory and non-ambulatory clients to DWC campus, ANMC in Anchorage, area health clinics, private physicians, to and from area activities and other scheduled stop/pick up areas. Responsible for appropriately securing passengers in the vehicle and driving with due caution. This position will work with the Transportation Coordinator to organize schedules, pick up routes, and maintain timeliness of arrivals. The driver will refuel vehicles and perform general maintenance checks, clean the interior and exterior of vehicles and advise the supervisor of any mechanical problems.

Essential Functions

  • Establishes and maintains a safe environment for clients and other staff
  • Provide safe and efficient transportation to clients
  • Performs safety checks on vehicles
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections on vehicles
  • Picks up and checks daily route schedule
  • Completes required logs and reports
  • Cleans each vehicle weekly
  • Purchase fuel
  • Report incidents of suspected abuse or neglect according to applicable laws
  • Notify supervisor of any/all concerns regarding routes, passengers or safety issues
  • Follow all traffic and safety laws at all times
  • Attend training and staff meetings as required
  • Treat clients with respect and courtesy
  • Employee is subject to call out

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

Experience

  • 1-year experience in public transportation or relevant experience.
  • Experience in the operation and routine maintenance of transportation vehicles.
  • Experience in driving a wheelchair accessible van/bus, 15-passenger van.
  • Customer service experience.

Preferred

  • Preferred experience in driving a bus with 8 36 seats.
  • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities.

License/Certification

  • A valid Alaska Driver's License and be eligible to obtain a Class B CDL license with passenger and airbrake endorsements and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or within 90 days of hire.
  • MANDT certified, or within 90 days of hire.

Special Skills

  • Must be at least 25 years of age to be insurable under the Tribe's policy.
  • Ability to drive in all weather conditions.
  • Good oral communication and customer service skills.
  • Availability to work overtime at least one day a week.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees and assist the public cooperatively and courteously.
  • Knowledge of defensive driving procedures.
  • Ability to utilize a GPS device.
  • Ability to complete related reports, logs and schedules.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
