Job Overview: Drive and operate a 15 passenger van and/or handicap accessible van. Transport both wheelchair bound and ambulatory participants to and from the program while following agency policies and procedures. Operate agency vehicles at all times within all federal, state and local laws. Use defensive driving techniques and practices to ensure safe operation of vehicle. Act as an advocate for the people served. Perform duties to reflect agency/program policies and mission statement.Supervisory Responsibilities:NoneEssential Functions of Position:Safely transport people served to and from the program while ensuring that their safety belts and needed wheelchair tie downs are properly secured.Be familiar with any conditions or behavioral issues presented by people served and be able to assist them accordingly.Assist people served on and off the vehicle at all stops using wheelchair lift and/or steps.Assist with providing transportation to assigned community trips as needed.Able to read a map, follow directions and willing to learn how to use a GPS device.Call into base when dropping off and picking up people served from their community employment sites.Ensure that fuel and other vehicle fluids are topped up as needed.Have good knowledge of routes and locations of all residential houses, community employment sites and emergency locations.Notify supervisor or base of any variance in route time exceeding 15 minutes.Complete pre and post trip vehicle inspection safety checklist and report any issues or defects to supervisor immediately.Assist with dispatch duties as needed.Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of the interior and exterior of vans.Ensure that the emergency book and trip route sheets are located in the van before departure.Fill out the trip mileage sheets completely and accurately.Report any accidents/incidents immediately and fill out the necessary paperwork in a timely manner.Follow emergency procedures and ensure the safety of passengers.Interact with people served in a patient and sensitive manner providing meaningful attention and communicating any concerns to supervisor in a timely manner.Work collaboratively within transportation system to ensure constant, reliable and quality services.Follow written transportation schedule and be flexible to change in assigned transportation routes and demands.Develop and maintain positive relationships with guardians, family members and other providersMaintain all required certifications current.Attend all required training sessions and staff meetings.Perform other related work duties as assigned by supervisor.QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
