Job summary

Kensington Senior Living is seeking a dedicated Driver for part-time duties in Kensington, MD. You will transport residents and staff, assist with mobility, and ensure vehicle safety and cleanliness. A valid license and safe driving record are required.

Responsibilities

• Safely and lawfully operates motor vehicles authorized to transport residents, families and team members.
• Transports residents to medical appointments, social outings, and activities while providing physical assistance and ensuring vehicle safety.
• Completes logs, identifies maintenance issues, and supports preventative maintenance of vehicles.
• Maintains patient and resident dignity with patience and good nature during transport.
• Assists residents with transfers and mobility as needed.
• Loads and secures wheelchairs, walkers, and bags; operates wheelchair lifts and securement systems.
• Keeps vehicles clean inside and out; performs safety checks on equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Safely and lawfully operates motor vehicles that are authorized to transport residents, families and team members. Under no circumstances is a personal vehicle to be used for transporting resident on company business.
2. Safely transports residents to medical appointments, social outings, and community activities while providing physical assistance and ensuring vehicle safety.
3. Understands how to fully operate each vehicle and associated equipment s/he is assigned to drive. Is responsible to fill out logs as required, identifies maintenance issues with vehicles, and participates in developing and ensuring effective preventative maintenance.
4. Demonstrates patience and good nature when assisting residents with their transportation needs and with other drivers.
5. Assists residents in with mobility and transfers to and from vehicles as needed.
6. Helps residents board and exit vehicles, handle wheelchairs, walkers, or bags, and operate mechanical wheelchair lifts and securement systems
7. Ensures that vehicles are kept spotlessly clean inside and out at all times. Completes safety checks before operating company vehicles including but not limited to turn signals, brake signals, lights, windshield wipers, horn, and seat belts.
8. Develops clear sense of direction and traffic patterns and demonstrates the ability to reach any location with a minimum of wasted time.
9. Embraces the role of ambassador for The Kensington when s/he is out in the community. Is unfailingly polite and non-aggressive as a driver.
10. Maintains a clear driving record with no moving violations.
11. Participates in other professional development activities as required.

Qualifications

1. Valid drivers’ license with no moving violations in the past 3 years
2. Must be able to clearly and proficiently communicate with people of all ages, while maintaining an energetic and positive attitude.
3. Must be able to read and write English, and follow verbal and written instructions.
4. Experience in similar position with retirement living or home-care background is desirable but not required.
5. Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings.
6. High school diploma preferred

Mental and Physical Requirements

1. Requires ability to stand and walk short and long distances for extended time period.
2. Must be able to lift and/or carry objects in excess of 25 pounds.
3. Requires reaching above, below, and at shoulder length.
4. Ability to remain calm and positive in stressful situations.
