Job summary

Sims Metal in Chicago, IL is seeking a Truck Driver A to perform transportation planning and tractor-trailer operations. You will coordinate routes, inspect vehicles, and ensure timely deliveries. The role requires a Class A license, a clean driving record, at least 3 years of tractor-trailer or roll-off experience, and compliance with DOT safety standards.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must possess Class A Driver License.
• Position requires minimum 21 years of age.
• 3+ years of tractor trailer or roll-off truck driving experience.
• Must possess a current clear motor vehicle report.
• Prefer 2+ years’ experience packaging and preparing loose freight for transport.
• Must communicate in English (oral and written).
• Must pass DOT physical and drug testing requirements.
• Lugger truck, dump truck, and/or roll off experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to company’s safety plan.
• Review daily schedule to determine supply needs and routing accuracy.
• Ensure daily supplies are on vehicle before leaving dock to proceed with daily schedule.
• Communicate with logistics department at the end of each stop on scheduled route.
• Complete daily drive route sheet.
• Conduct daily vehicle inspections.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
