HDR has an excellent career opportunity for a Drinking Water and Wastewater Market Sector Leader who is passionate about protecting public health and understands the intersection between the drinking water, wastewater, recycled water, and stormwater markets. The role involves collaborating with local and national leadership to set vision and strategy to expand and provide engineering services to drinking water agencies, related clients in other sectors, and relevant research organizations.
HDR's Portland Water/Wastewater group is a small team of engineers with experience ranging from 0–25 years, including several senior staff promoted from intern roles. The team is invested in community projects and works throughout the nation and beyond. Responsibilities
- Serve as a client manager and project manager for future assignments and pursuits with key clients in the area.
- Identify and develop project opportunities, act as a pursuit champion, and serve as a resource for HDR pursuits.
- Plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of large multi-discipline projects or medium-sized projects with high technical complexity.
- Assess the marketplace to determine the best business approach to win and secure contracts.
- Coordinate cross-sector business development with other market sectors and groups.
- Act as Client Manager for selected key regional clients and maintain visibility in the industry.
- Promote HDR services to clients and collaborate with client managers on marketing and delivery.
- Work with Business Group Managers on market sector initiatives for area and department delivery.
- Drive client development and pursuit processes with client development leaders, leveraging proven capture techniques.
- Support selected pursuits through client relationship development or strategy participation.
- Participate in industry associations and serve as a role model in business and community organizations.
- Identify key investments to maintain HDR’s leadership position in the industry.
- Develop relationships with industry counterparts and senior leadership in key client organizations.
- Lead efforts to enhance practices to win new work and provide opportunities for staff growth and development.
- Lead or assist with identifying and recruiting prospective market sector employees.
- Coordinate area resources and share work with other departments as needed.
- Collaborate with market sector leaders to drive technical excellence and coordinate staff to support programs and marketing.
- Identify needs for new or improved technical services and products to maximize practice impact.
- Coordinate staffing and recruiting plans with Market Sector Directors and local leadership.
- Identify resource gaps and support talent management and recruitment.
- Deliver services within the market sector in coordination with Area Business Group Managers.
- Drive client management, monitor market sector profitability, ensure project delivery, and support QA/QC programs.
- Facilitate cooperation and remove barriers to success.
- Monitor market sector performance indicators such as profitability, AR, and investments.
- Implement process improvements and leverage work sharing to meet goals.
- Manage staff workload, promote effective use of resources, and apply expertise to projects.
- Assist with contract reviews to manage risk, staffing, quality reviews, and claims resolution.
- Promote QA/QC and provide technical expertise to support marketing and project activities.
- Facilitate the development and dissemination of "lessons learned".
- Take on Project Management assignments aligned with this leadership role.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering, planning, or a related field
- A minimum of 10 years of industry experience
- If an engineer, maintain engineering registration
- Experience in development and management of strategic marketing programs for planning and/or engineering services
- Experience in development and management of client relationships and program/project pursuits
- Experience in staff development including recruiting and professional growth
- Experience with industry associations and maintains a visible market sector profile
- Ability to collaborate with Regional Market Sector Directors, Market Sector Directors, Business Class Directors, Regional Business Group Directors, Area Business Group Managers, Area Marketing Managers, and Area Managers
