Job summary

M/D Totco in Texas is seeking a Field Engineer to support NPD, field operations, and product readiness. You will coordinate field visits, assist design reviews, and develop technical documentation for MDT products.

Travel up to 50% daily and 25% overnight; potential international projects. You will work with Operations, Product and Engineering to identify root causes and implement long-term resolutions, leveraging Microsoft 365 and OT protocols.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of field experience in oil & gas drilling
  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geology, or related field
  • Familiarity with MWD, LWD, RSS, and MPD technologies
  • Fundamental understanding of directional drilling and tools (Stick & Slip, Torque & Drag, Swab & Surge)
  • Must be self-motivated and able to manage time with little oversight
  • Thorough understanding of Microsoft 365 product suite
  • Excel at creating visuals to communicate plans, concepts, and issues to stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate visits to field stores and rigs to maintain relationships and understand technician capabilities and customer expectations
  • Actively participate in design reviews and other steps within the NPD cycle, raising potential issues to the design team
  • Create, review, and regularly revise product technical documentation
  • Manage software & configuration files for MDT products and components; maintain deployment processes
  • Create quantified plans for testing new products in lab and field environments
  • Provide onsite and remote support for MDT products as needed
  • Coordinate field tests with stakeholders, deploy product, document results, and communicate findings to development team
  • Collect & record feedback from Operations; identify root cause; coordinate with other groups to implement long-term resolutions

Job description

The primary objectives of the Field Engineering (FE) Department within M/D Totco are to provide feedback during the new product development (NPD) cycle, perform quality assessments on products and ensure a sufficient support structure exists before the commercial release. These individuals also serve as a conduit for communicating issues & feedback from Operations to Product and Engineering teams. This helps prioritize sustaining activities against new features on their backlog.

This requires an understanding of field operations, customer expectations, the product development process, and both sales and support structures.

Some of the key responsibilities are identified below:

  • Coordination of visits to field stores and rigs to maintain relationships and a good understanding of technician capabilities and customer expectations.
  • Actively participate in design reviews and other steps within the NPD cycle, ensuring potential issues are brought to the attention of the design team as soon as possible.
  • Create, review, and regularly revise product technical documentation.
  • Manage software & configuration files associated to MDT products and their components, to create and maintain standardized deployment processes.
  • Create quantified plans for testing new products in laboratory and field environments.
  • Ability to provide onsite and remote support for all MDT products when needed.
  • Coordinate field tests with stakeholders, deploy the product to perform the test, document the results, and communicate the findings to the development team.
  • Collect & record feedback from Operations on issues with existing products. Work with teammates and stakeholders to identify root cause, then coordinate with other groups as needed to implement long term resolutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Familiarity with MWD, LWD, RSS, and MPD technologies
  • Fundamental understanding of directional drilling and tools commonly used to improve efficiency (Stick & Slip, Torque & Drag, Swab & Surge, etc.)
  • Must be self-motivated and able to manage their time with little oversight
  • Thorough understanding of Microsoft 365 product suite
  • Excel at creating visuals to communicate plans, concepts, and issues to stakeholders
  • Travel required:
    • 50% Daily & 25% Overnight
    • Potential for international projects in low-risk regions
    • Vehicle & expenses provided
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Debian Linux Environments
  • Prior experience with MWD, LWD, RSS, and/or MPD service provider
  • Experience with MS Teams, Sharepoint, & Visio
  • Previous experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes platforms.
  • Experience with Proxmox and other hypervisor applications and environments
  • Ability to implement, document, and troubleshoot OT communication protocols (Modbus, OPC-UA, Profibus, etc.)
