Job description

You will work with an experienced Driller to position drilling rigs to provide rock core and soil sampling. The work includes driving, operating, and maintaining drill rigs, vehicles, forklifts, skid-steers, and other support equipment used in the geotechnical industry.

This is an entry-level position in the Geotechnical drill trade. We seek trustworthy and reliable individuals who can work full-time at various project sites. Our work involves open bid contracts for the Department of Transportation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Turnpike, and private projects. Travel to project locations in company-provided vehicles is required, with out-of-town travel constituting approximately 25% of the time. Project schedules typically run Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend and night work depending on logistics. Workdays may range from 8 to 12 hours based on need.

What you will do:
  1. Follow instructions from the driller and project manager related to driving, operating, and maintaining company’s drill rigs, vehicles, forklifts, skid-steers, and other support equipment.
  2. Perform routine maintenance on drilling equipment and vehicles as required.
  3. Perform physical labor, including shoveling, handling drilling debris, and transporting materials using ergonomic techniques.
  4. Operate hand tools and other equipment.
  5. Conduct pre-trip inspections.
  6. Set up traffic control zones for work.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned to meet business and customer needs.
We seek:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior experience with sonic, auger, or direct push rigs is beneficial but not required.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work productively as part of a team of 2 or 3.
  • Mechanical ability for minor repairs is useful.
  • CDL is a plus.
  • OSHA 10/40 certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to learn from and substitute for the driller when qualified.
  • Trustworthiness, dependability, and good interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License for your state and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an interstate DOT Medical Card and meet FMCSA requirements for operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle.
Work environment:
  • Primarily works in a heavy manufacturing environment, requiring adaptability to various conditions including heat, cold, outdoor elements, and loud noises.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle are required.
  • Local and regional travel at least 25% of the time.
  • Ability to stand upright for extended periods.
  • Lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Wearing personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, face shields, steel-toe footwear, ear protection, and hard hats.
  • Repeated motions with wrists, hands, and fingers.
