Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Drilling Engineer to provide operational support for drilling programs in challenging environments. Based in the United States, you will design plans from well design through to completion, select equipment, and manage risks to deliver safe, cost-effective operations.

You will work with field teams, monitor progress, analyze data, and optimize performance. A Bachelor's degree in Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering and at least four years of drilling

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 4 years of drilling engineering experience, offshore or challenging environments preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of well control, hydraulics, and directional drilling.
  • Experience using drilling software and data analysis tools.
  • Commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed drilling plans and programs including casing, cementing, and mud engineering.
  • Select and procure drilling equipment, tools, and services while ensuring safety compliance.
  • Monitor drilling progress, identify hazards, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and optimize drilling performance.
  • Coordinate with rig site personnel and service providers to ensure smooth operations.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and technically proficient Drilling Engineer to provide essential operational support in George . This role focuses on ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of drilling operations, from well design through to completion. You will be instrumental in developing drilling programs, selecting appropriate equipment, and managing risks associated with drilling activities in challenging geological environments. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative drilling solutions and operational excellence within the South African Oil & Gas sector , working closely with field teams and surface operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed drilling plans and programs, including casing, cementing, and mud engineering aspects.
  • Select and procure appropriate drilling equipment, tools, and services, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Monitor drilling progress, identify potential hazards, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure safe operations.
  • Analyze drilling data, troubleshoot operational issues, and optimize drilling performance.
  • Conduct post-drilling analysis and generate reports to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement.
  • Coordinate with rig site personnel, service providers, and management to ensure seamless operations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in drilling engineering , preferably with offshore or challenging onshore operations.
  • Solid understanding of well control principles, drilling hydraulics, and directional drilling.
  • Experience with drilling software and data analysis tools.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
