Job Description

General Responsibilities:

Exploration Team Members (ETMs) perform subsurface exploration duties using conventional drilling or in-situ testing techniques. Drilling methods include auger, mud rotary, air rotary, and diamond bit coring. In-situ testing may involve cone penetration testing (CPT), pressure meter testing, and rock dilatometer testing. Work also includes installing instrumentation such as piezometers, monitor wells, and inclinometers. ETMs work as part of a team on projects, performing daily tasks like surveying and locating drilling points, conducting site reconnaissance, loading/unloading tooling and samples, classifying soil and rock samples, performing routine maintenance and repairs on equipment, and preparing paperwork such as daily field forms and DOT logs.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Operate geotechnical drill rigs to advance shallow boreholes in soil.
  • Oversee a 2-person drill crew during drilling operations.
  • Install instrumentation and monitoring wells.
  • Perform routine repairs and maintenance.
  • Conduct basic surveying, site reconnaissance, and utility clearance tasks.
  • Transport drilling equipment to and from project sites.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment independently.
  • Follow safety rules and participate in pre-task planning, reporting safety issues.
  • Maintain quality standards on all projects.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1-year experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
  • Ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card within 30 days of employment.
  • Relevant state licensure for driller/well installation, when applicable.

Preferred Certifications and Skills:

  • Experience with in-situ test methods, instrumentation installation, barge drilling, angle drilling, and environmental drilling.
  • Regional drilling licensure.
  • Valid Class A or B commercial driver’s license.
