Job Title: Driller Assistant Technician I or II


Job Summary:
The Driller’s Assistant/Technician position is to assist in ensuring drilling operations are executed in accordance with the drilling plan from implementation, completion, and abandonment of drill sites. The Technician works with the Driller/Operator and crew in preparing the equipment and site for the drilling operation, setup, and breakdown of drilling sites, which includes repetitive bending, lifting, and climbing throughout the normal workday. This individual promotes safety and reports safety problems, incidents, accidents, or irregularities. Acts as a member of a team.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct pre-trip inspection.
  2. Set up a control zone.
  3. Perform physical labor, shoveling, drilling debris, and transporting materials using ergonomically correct lifting techniques.
  4. Maintain equipment.
  5. Ability to fill in for driller when qualified.
  6. Knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
  7. Maintain all certifications required by the Industry or OSHA.
  8. Forklift trained.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record, with a willingness to obtain Class A or Class B license.
  • Technician II qualifier - must be a Commercial Licensed (Class A or B) driver.
  • Must be willing to travel extensively.
  • HAZWOPER, Forklift, CPR First-Aid Certifications Preferred.
  • Ability to pass a yearly physical and random drug test.
  • Mechanical ability to do minor repairs.

Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED

Physical Demands:

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, use hands to finger, handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; bending or crouching; talk or hear.
  2. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  3. Bending or standing as necessary.
  4. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  5. Ability to maneuver in small areas.
  6. Required to wear protective and safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats.
  7. Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds or more throughout the workday.
  8. Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  9. Requires ongoing repetitive motions (including but not limited to bending and twisting throughout the workday).
  10. Ability to work up to 55 hours per week doing physical labor (up to 12 hours per day).
  11. Ability to withstand long periods of standing (fieldwork involves time on feet for the workday except for breaks and lunch period).


Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to indoor and outdoor weather conditions and other elements prevalent at the time. Fieldwork often includes uneven and slippery outdoor surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is typical of machinery noise which can be distracting and loud at times. May be exposed to dust, and fluctuation in outside temperatures.
