The Equipment Operator performs a variety of tasks, operating various types of equipment primarily related to the construction of telecommunications and a Fiber-to-the-Home (FttH) Network. This position will operate heavy to light excavation equipment as well as place and bury fiber pathways, including operation of horizontal/directional drill rigs, locating equipment, and product support equipment.
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent, with at least one (1) year of experience. Vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred.
• On-the-job training offered. Must be available to work long periods, including evenings and weekends when necessary.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, sit.
• Ability to use hands and feet to handle and operate equipment.
• Ability to reach with hands and arms.
• Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, and up to 100 lbs as needed.
• Ability to maintain all safety expectations.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and in extreme weather conditions.
• Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery.
• Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains.
Additional skills include extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation, ability to read building plans related to structural concrete and land grades, excellent mechanical skills, ability to follow instructions, and ability to work as part of a team.
