Position Summary

Under the immediate direction of the Lead person, the Equipment Operator/Utility Person will safely perform cross-functional duties in plant maintenance, production, and equipment operation. Duties include monitoring plant conditions during operation, greasing and lubricating plant equipment, maintaining plant housekeeping, operating equipment, and performing routine maintenance on plant equipment. Additionally, safely operate plant mobile heavy equipment such as haul trucks, motor graders, water trucks, cranes, etc., to bring raw materials from the pit to the plant in a safe and efficient manner at maximum loading capacity.

Essential Functions

• Must be able to or willing to learn to operate all other mobile equipment, including: haul truck, motor grader, water truck, loader, and crane
• Load company trucks
• Assist in plant repairs and clean-up
• Perform pre-shift safety inspections on equipment
• Perform preventative maintenance and service mobile equipment; report needed repairs to shop personnel
• Responsible for good housekeeping of equipment
• Adhere to MSHA and plant safety rules and regulations
• Perform duties with minimal supervision

Preferred Education and Experience

• HS Diploma or GED required
• 1-year equipment operation, plant operation, or maintenance experience preferred
• Ability to learn quickly and follow directions
• Ability to read and interpret gauges/dials and make competent decisions related to processing equipment
• Dependable and self-motivated, able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to prioritize workload efficiently
• Willing to work irregular shifts, days, nights, and weekends as needed
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Pro-active in SAFETY and works well in a team environment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to read equipment operating manuals
• Complete pre-shift inspection reports
• Communicate in English via radio or CB
• Basic mathematical skills for daily reports
• Ability to wear all required safety equipment
• Perform duties in a safe manner
• Read and interpret gauges
• Proven ability to work in a TEAM environment

Physical Requirements

• Good hand/eye coordination to operate hand/foot controls
• Good vision to perceive depth at close range and up to 150 feet
• Ability to climb on and off equipment to operate and service
• Ability to bend, stoop, climb, and reach around mobile equipment
• Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs
• Ability to sit and operate equipment for long periods (up to 10+ hours per day)
• Work outside in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures: heat, cold, wetness, dryness, dust, and noise
• Work at various heights

Working Conditions

Most larger equipment is typically air-conditioned. Outside assignments may require working in all weather conditions—heat, cold, wet, dry, dusty. Noise levels can reach up to 85 dB.
