Job summary

Bettis Asphalt & Construction, Inc. in Kansas seeks dedicated individuals to operate our dredge equipment, uphold safety, and contribute to quality workmanship on heavy civil projects.

You will perform pre-start checks, daily maintenance, and coordinate with production while following MSHA safety guidelines. The role requires flexibility for evenings and weekends and a commitment to learning in a stable, growing company.

Qualifications

  • High school education or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum six months related experience or training.
  • Pre-employment testing including a drug screen and physical.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the dredge in river or pit applications.
  • Perform daily pre-start up procedures and inspections.
  • Conduct daily routine maintenance and cleaning.
  • Communicate daily job specifications to production and operate safely.
  • Follow safety requirements and MSHA guidelines.
  • Be flexible with schedules and willing to work evenings/weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ability to operate our dredge in a river or pit application.
  • Be familiar with the equipment and daily inspection checklist
  • Perform daily pre-start up procedures (i.e. note the service due date, check fluid levels and make sure the equipment to be used is in good running order, complete daily equipment checklist)
  • Perform daily routine maintenance and cleaning
  • Communicate with production regarding the daily job specifications and operate the equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Be aware of other equipment and personnel working in the area
  • Possess ability to follow instructions with strong oral and written skills
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers and supervisors
  • Report to assigned job area in proper attire and ready to begin work at the designated start time
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in policies and procedures manual, and MSHA guidelines
  • Ability to think clearly no matter the stress or difficulty of your circumstances
  • Possess a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate specific directions to ensure the safety of all
  • Desire to learn and commitment to working safely
  • Flexibility to work various schedules and stay late when necessary with little or no notice
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary

Job Requirements and Education
  • Over 18 years of age
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Complete and pass pre-employment testing, including a drug screen and physical
  • High school education or GED equivalent
  • Minimum six months related experience/training or equivalent combination of education or experience preferred
