Job summary

The State of Delaware’s Maintenance & Operations Division in Wilmington is seeking an Equipment Operator I to support roadway maintenance and seasonal drawbridge operations from May through October. The role requires readiness for overtime and emergency events with hazard pay.

A valid driver’s license is required; CDL may be needed during probation. From November to April, the position shifts to an entry‑level equipment operator in the area yard, performing routine maintenance under supervision

Qualifications

Knowledge of preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
Knowledge of operating a variety of equipment used in repair and maintenance of roads, grounds, or structures.
Knowledge of operating motorized equipment used for groundskeeping, snow removal, or hauling materials.
Possession of a valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

Drives and controls on/off-road equipment to haul supplies to and from the work site.
Operates mobile equipment and hand tools to perform general repairs and maintenance.
Loads and unloads materials such as rocks and debris using various lifting tools.
Responds to environmental or emergency situations to ensure safety on roads and grounds.
