Foss Recycling Inc. in Havelock, NC is seeking a dependable Drain Technician to prepare vehicles for crushing or placement in the U-Pull-It yard by safely removing fluids, tires, and designated vehicle components.

This is a hands‑on, physically active role requiring basic automotive knowledge, safety awareness, and the ability to work outdoors in a recycling environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Two years experience in automotive, salvage, scrap metal, or recycling environment preferred.
• Basic knowledge of automobiles and automotive components.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, air tools, and equipment.
• Ability to follow instructions and established safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Safely drain all required vehicle fluids (gasoline, oil, transmission fluid, antifreeze).
• Collect, contain, and handle automotive fluids per safety procedures.
• Remove tires and rims from vehicles and dismount tires when required.
• Remove catalytic converters, batteries, mercury switches, and other designated materials.
• Use air tools and equipment to prepare vehicles for processing.
• Assist with moving vehicles and materials using loaders, forklifts, Bobcats, or other equipment when trained.
• Complete required paperwork accurately and on time.
• Maintain the drain area in a clean, hazard‑free condition.
• Follow safety, environmental, and operational policies.
• Assist Location Manager and team as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Foss Recycling Inc. is seeking a dependable and hardworking Drain Technician to join our Havelock team. The Drain Technician is responsible for preparing vehicles for crushing or placement in the U-Pull-It yard by safely removing fluids, tires, and designated vehicle components.

This is a hands‑on, physically active position that requires basic automotive knowledge, attention to safety, and the ability to work efficiently in an outdoor recycling environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Safely drain all required vehicle fluids, including gasoline, oil, transmission fluid, and antifreeze.
• Properly collect, contain, and handle automotive fluids in accordance with company safety and environmental procedures.
• Remove tires and rims from vehicles and dismount tires from rims as required.
• Remove catalytic converters, batteries, mercury switches, trash, clothing, and other designated materials from vehicles.
• Use air tools and other equipment to prepare vehicles for processing.
• Assist with moving vehicles and materials using loaders, forklifts, Bobcats, or other equipment when properly trained and authorized.
• Complete all required paperwork accurately, legibly, and on time.
• Maintain the drain area in a clean, organized, and hazard‑free condition.
• Follow all company safety, environmental, and operational policies and procedures.
• Assist the Location Manager and other team members as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of metals and recyclable materials preferred.
• Ability to safely operate and use applicable hand tools, air tools, and equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to frequently bend, twist, reach, push, pull, and use hands and arms.
• Ability to perform overhead work.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds.
• Ability to lift items weighing up to 45 pounds to a height of approximately five feet.
• Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks associated with draining and preparing vehicles.
• Ability to safely work around vehicles, machinery, tools, and recycling equipment.
• Work is primarily performed outdoors in an automotive recycling and U-Pull-It yard environment.
• Employees will work in varying weather conditions throughout the year.
• The position involves regular exposure to vehicles, automotive fluids, metals, machinery, and powered tools.
• Proper personal protective equipment and compliance with company safety procedures are required.
