Job summary

Traylor Bros., Inc. is seeking a Draftsman to support the Underground Division in generating general layout and fabrication drawings for tunnels and related structures. The role collaborates with estimating and field teams to translate sketches into precise CAD drawings.

The ideal candidate holds an associate degree in drafting or engineering, with strong AutoCAD experience and knowledge of Revit/Civil 3D. Travel to job sites and meetings will be required as needed.

Qualifications

  • Requires associate degree in drafting or engineering; bachelor’s preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD required; familiarity with Revit and Civil 3D desired.
  • SolidWorks desirable; knowledge of engineering drawing practices and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Produce 2D and 3D drawings using CAD systems.
  • Draft plans and detailed drawings for tunnels, dams, and structures from sketches or notes.
  • Draw maps and profiles using cross-sections and surveys to represent elevations and contours.
  • Finish and distribute drawings and documentation packages per project guidelines.
  • Review engineering data for conformance to design concepts.
  • Correlate data from surveys and generate accurate material lists.
  • Travel to attend meetings and site visits as required.

Position Summary:

This role is responsible for working with estimating and job sites to generate both general layout and fabrication drawings. Most work is done for the Underground Division.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Produce 2D and 3D drawings using computer-assisted drafting systems (CAD)
  • Draft plans and detailed drawings for structures, installations, and construction projects such as tunnels, and dams working from sketches or notes
  • Draw maps, diagrams, and profiles using cross-sections and surveys, to represent elevations, topographical contours, subsurface formations, and structures
  • Finish and distribute drawings and documentation packages in accordance with all specifications and guidelines set forth by the project team
  • Review rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from engineers to ensure that they conform to design concepts
  • Correlate, interpret, and modify data obtained from the survey
  • Generate material lists with accurate descriptions, piece marks, and quantities
  • Assume additional responsibilities as directed by division and corporate management. Travel as required to attend, but not limited to, meetings, site visits, training, etc.

Education/Experience

  • Associate degree in Drafting or Engineering required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience using AutoCAD required; experience using other Autodesk programs, including, but not limited to, Revit and Civil 3D preferred.
  • Experience with SolidWorks is desirable
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawing, and models
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of structures such as bridges and tunnels
  • Knowledge of the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in conjunction with 3D solid modeling preferred
  • Knowledge of symbols and standards related to drafting machine components (clearances, tolerances, surface roughness, etc.)

Physical Demands

  • Travel will be required to attend training and meetings.
  • Ability to sit or stand for an entire shift
  • Occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
  • Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to speak, write, and understand English clearly.

Salary $80-120k
