Job description

Position Overview

Power your future with Qualus as a Civil Drafting Technician! Join Qualus as a mid-level Drafting Technician and put your AutoCAD/ Civil 3D expertise to work on high-impact substation projects. Partnering closely with Civil-Structural Engineers, you'll create and revise detailed drawings while upholding CAD and industry standards. You'll help develop grading and drainage plans, foundation layouts, and structural steel designs, as well as organize CAD drawing files, run quality checks, and serve as the first line of CAD support for project teams. This role is ideal for a self-starter who thrives in a collaborative and technical environment.

Responsibilities
  • Produce and revise Civil-Structural substation drawings (primarily in AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D) from engineer sketches, redlines, and design specifications.
  • Develop detailed grading and drainage plans, site layouts, foundation layouts, and structural-steel details that conform to CAD and industry standards and client requirements.
  • Compile completed drawing packages, checking all sheets for accuracy, title-block compliance, and cross-discipline coordination.
  • Keep project drawing sets, x-refs, and schedules well organized; maintain the CAD file archive and naming conventions for easy team access.
  • Run quality check (QC) reviews, dimension and block checks, and material takeoffs, and assist engineers with drawing reviews and day-to-day project coordination.

Qualifications
  • Associates degree in Computer-Aided Design/Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field; or equivalent CAD certification/technical training.
  • 2+ years of civil or structural drafting experience, ideally on utility-scale or substation projects (strongly skilled candidates with 1+ year and solid Civil 3D coursework will be considered).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D software; MicroStation experience a plus.
  • Experience with topographical surveys, site development plans, or utility mapping is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans, specifications, and drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Efficient communication and teamwork abilities.
