Job summary

American Emergency Vehicles (AEV) seeks a CAD Drafter to support the drafting of ambulance components and systems. You will develop detailed drawings from marks and collaborate with engineers to finalize layouts and schematics.

The role requires reading work orders and 2D drawings, with a focus on accuracy and timely delivery. Preferred candidates hold an Associate degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and have 0–2 years of related drafting experience.

Qualifications

  • CAD/CAE software experience to develop and modify drawings.
  • Ability to read work orders and 2D drawings.
  • Experience with root cause analysis (5 Whys).
  • Strong communication and collaboration with engineers and shop personnel.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook).

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed design drawings and specifications from markups.
  • Coordinate with engineers/designers to complete projects.
  • Review specifications and drawings to ensure proper fit and function.
  • Modify designs to correct deficiencies and reduce production problems.
  • Maintain CAD standards and the BOM library.

Job Summary

Provides routine drafting support, prepares various drawings and schematics derived from a variety of specifications, layouts, blueprints and sketches. Utilizes established techniques, standards and tools like computer aided drafting software to prepare technical drawings. Coordinates and consults with engineers or designers to complete projects. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed design drawings and specifications from markups and verbal instructions using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment.
  • Work with and consult other workers to design, lay-out, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems and to ensure projects and tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
  • Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
  • Check dimensions of materials to be used to insure proper fit and function.
  • Lay-out and draw schematic, orthographic, or angle views to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems, and machines.
  • Keeps abreast of current CAD Standards to maintain continuity during the drawing and bill of material development process.
  • Maintains the library of production drawings and bills of material to ensure a central source of current reference information is available and accessible to all departments.
  • Designing cabinets and compartments to be used in an ambulance
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of manufacturing industry and vocational standards preferred.
  • CAD and CAE software experience.
  • Ability to read a work order and 2D drawings
  • Experience with problem solving techniques (5 why & root cause analysis).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work directly with hourly production employees and leadership concerning manufacturing initiatives and progress updates.
  • Strong work ethic, highly motivated, organized, and self-disciplined.
  • Versatile, flexible, and willing to work with changing priorities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to stay on task.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute concurrent assignments in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong and consistent attention to detail.

  • Ability to use sound judgment and make timely decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Solid PC skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Teams, and Outlook.

  • Capable of effectively presenting information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees in the organization.
  • Strong problem solving skills
Education And/or Experience
  • Associate’s Degree of Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent education preferred.
  • Typically requires 0-2 years of related experience.
Work Environment/Conditions
  • General office environment with work on the plant floor as required.
