Job summary

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Drafter/CAD Operator IV for the RTC Test and Engineering Services (RTES) Contract supporting the Army Division. Location: Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL.

This full-time role requires the ability to obtain a Secret clearance and offers growth within a defense-focused environment. The position develops mechanical systems using SolidWorks, prepares technical documentation, and oversees projects from concept through release to ensure RTC standards and

Qualifications

  • 1 year of vocational school training in electrical or mechanical engineering drafting.
  • 5 years of applicable experience in three-dimensional (3D) computer aided design (CAD).
  • Must be flexible in adapting to deadlines, changing schedules, competing priorities, and unpredictable events.
  • Thorough, detail oriented, and organized, with excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects at once
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Government security clearance. (Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative mechanical systems and components using SolidWorks CAD software.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including specifications, assembly guides, and project reports to support production and quality assurance efforts.
  • Oversee projects from initial concept through prototyping to final release, ensuring alignment with RTC standards, configuration protocols, and client specifications.
  • Contribute to design reviews by offering and receiving constructive, solutions-focused feedback.
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to recommend new engineering methods, tools, and materials that support continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications / Skills
  • 1 year of vocational school training in electrical or mechanical engineering drafting.
  • 5 years of applicable experience in three-dimensional (3D) computer aided design (CAD).

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain drafting accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
