DPW Mechanic Grade 140hrs p/week benefited, $41.81 p/hr. CDL and Hoisting licenses within 6 months of hire and own tools required upon hire. Incumbent must have own tools and be available for overtime for emergencies and sanding and plowing operations. Primary Purpose Of The Position
Assists the Supervisor of Vehicle Maintenance with the responsibilities of the Equipment Maintenance Division, including, but not limited to:
Duties And Responsibilities
- Planning , scheduling and coordinating all mechanical work and programs to maintain, service and repair municipal vehicles, mechanical equipment and pumps.
- Providing assistance to employees and participating directly in maintenance, service and repair work.
- Training and cross training personnel on operating procedures and equipment.
- Assuring that all work performed complies with accepted maintenance practices, manufacturer specifications, and Town procedures.
- Maintaining an inventory and record of parts, materials, and operating supplies used in replacement parts list and schematics for all municipal equipment. Reviewing available products to accomplish work, developing purchase specifications, and purchasing parts, materials, and operating supplies for acceptance upon delivery.
- Advising supervisor of unique and unusual situations.
- Providing extraordinary customer service.
- Also performs any other public works function as directed by his/her supervisor or other DPW management staff.
Desirable Qualifications
- Demonstrates proficiency in automotive maintenance, hydraulics and welding techniques.
- Must possess own tools
- Demonstrates ability to operate test measurement and diagnostic equipment and personal computers or a willingness to develop those skills within one year.
- Must possess a Commercial Drivers License, Class B
- Must possess a Hoisting License to operate a loader, backhoe, sewer-vac, catch basin cleaner and street sweeper
- Demonstrates the ability to work continuously under varying weather conditions
- Ability to work overtime as requested or required
- Has a work history that demonstrates a good working attitude and an ability and willingness to work with supervisors and peers without conflict and independently with minimum supervision
- Ability to keep records and make reports
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to read and follow service/repair manuals, also to understand technical specifications established by regulatory agencies.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the safe and effective use of powered and hand tools.
Education And Skills
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrates the ability to understand and communicate work related information
- Demonstrates basic mathematical skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Physical
- Physically fit to perform heavy manual labor to include ability to lift automotive components up to 200 pounds with assistance, and climb into/out of truck bodies.
- Must have vision correctable to 20/20 with good field and depth perception to operate motor vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Demonstrates good hand and finger dexterity to use hand tools and make adjustments on equipment.
