Employment Status: UFCW Laborer’s Union, Non-Exempt, Full-Time(40 Hours)

Schedule : Mon – Fri 7:00AM – 3:30PM

Certifications/Licenses Required: Massachusetts Class D CDL License,

Certified Pool Operator License (or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire).

SUMMARY

The City of Chicopee’s Department of Public Works – Parks Division is hiring a DPW Maintenance Craftsman who will be assigned tasks with a high degree of skill in the care, maintenance, operation, and repair of Park facilities with a special attention to water related components including comfort stations, water sprays, pools, fountains, bubblers and irrigation. These tasks are assigned by a supervisor but are often performed without direct supervision. This position provides documentation of tasks completed and maintains records as required regarding the operation of pools and spray features. As a year-round position, this position assists with all other aspects of park operations as needed. Keeps all required licenses up to date.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Performs necessary maintenance, monitoring and treatment to operate all Park Department's pools, spray features, comfort stations, fountains, irrigation systems, and bubblers
  • Performs tasks required to start up water service in the spring and safely tum off water service and winterize lines in the fall for pools, spray features, comfort stations, fountains, irrigation systems, and bubblers. Responsible for planning and sequencing the work.
  • Performs tasks to bring pool water into balance, following guidelines provided by the contracted laboratory or vendor and in compliance with the Department of Public Health code for pool operations.
  • Utilizes chemicals safely to balance water, clean comfort stations, remove graffiti from facilities and equipment, fuel equipment, and apply paint as well as other applications.
  • Completes assigned paperwork or computer-based forms accurately to reflect tasks accomplished, inventory, preventative maintenance log, field observations, water treatment performed, daily pool tests, request for quotes, requests for use of earned time, or for other reasons.
  • Responsible for making purchases on behalf of the City with the permission of supervisor.
  • All other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent of Parks and Recreation and/or Superintendent of Public Works.
  • Abide by City of Chicopee Health and Safety policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Massachusetts Class D CDL License – Required
  • Certified Pool Operator License (or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire).- Required
  • Massachusetts Class B CDL License – Preferred
  • Two (2) years of prior experience operating and maintaining water related systems including pools, spay features, comfort stations, fountains irrigation systems, and bubblers.
  • Experience and high degree of skill working with piping, wood, cement, and wiring to perform maintenance tasks sufficiently.
  • Experience with working outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and experience in pool operation and plumbing.
