GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Perform routine (journey-level) training work as a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Trainer Instructor of specialized procedures, rules and regulations for users of the Criminal Justice Information system(s) to gain the highest levels possible in completeness, accuracy and integrity of those systems. Work as a coordinator with local, state, and federal entities to facilitate the implementation of state rules and regulations of criminal justice information. Conduct in-person or virtual training classes in large and small groups that utilize Criminal Justice Information System(s) throughout the State. May train, coach, and mentor others. Work is performed under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the exercise of independent judgment within the limits of applicable statutes, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and operating agreements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:
Education - High School Diploma or equivalent, plus sixty (60) academic credit hours from an accredited college or university with course work in accounting, business administration, computer or management information systems, or a related field.
Experience –Minimum of twelve (12) months of progressively responsible research or training work with experience involving confidential or secure information along with the use of computer-based information systems.
Substitution Note: Additional work experience of the type described or other related education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.
Licensure and/or Certification - Must be able to maintain the required certification(s) that relate to the Criminal Justice Information Systems and CRD Policies. Must obtain TCOLE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement) Basic Instructor certificate within one (1) year. Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.
Regulatory knowledge - Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures. Ability to learn the operations of the Criminal Justice Information Systems and to apply that knowledge effectively to train internal/external customers.
Interpersonal skills – Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.
Presentation/Communication skills – Must be able to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional presentations to a variety of audiences and/or individuals.
Organizational skills - Ability to maintain complete and accurate records of training classes, participants and their assessed learning results and of travel and training expenses. Ability to perform work independently as well as a team member, to make sound work-related judgments and decisions.
Computer systems / hardware / software – Knowledge of computerized information systems and their associated security and operations. Ability to learn the operational details of applicable systems and to apply that knowledge effectively in training and assisting criminal justice agency employees to use the system accurately. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Confidentiality – Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information.
Schedule - Availability for after-hour and weekend work may be required.
