Position Summary
Under the immediate direction of the Plant Management Team, the Loader Operator is responsible for operating mobile equipment to move raw materials from stockpiles to trains and loading finished products into customer trucks. Additional responsibilities include maintaining roadways and loading areas for the designated business unit. This position also involves rail yard switching, preparing rail-cars for loading, and performing some track and equipment inspections/maintenance.
This position is located in our Merkel Plant, Night Shift
Requirements
- Operate various mobile equipment, including motor graders, track mobiles, and haul units
- Perform daily pre-shift inspections on equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance on mobile equipment and report repairs needed
- Follow safety rules, regulations, and procedures as set by MSHA/OSHA and company policies
- Provide relief in other plant operations such as rail unloading, maintenance, quality control, and scale house
- Maintain a positive attitude and energy level with teammates, peers, and customers
- Maintain quality of all products
- Assist with equipment and plant repairs, maintenance, and housekeeping as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Preferred Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- 1-3 years of heavy equipment operating experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Complete pre-shift inspection reports
- Work irregular shifts, including days, nights, and weekends as required
- Read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Perform basic math, including fractions, percentages, and interpret gauges and manuals
- Operate large power equipment safely and effectively
- Perform technical tasks with the ability to upgrade skills as needed
- Establish effective working relationships with employees and the public
- Solve problems and make decisions independently
- Follow oral and written instructions and work independently
- Plan, organize, and maintain accurate records
Physical Requirements
- Wear safety gear such as hard hats, glasses, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection
- Climb stairs up to 100 ft. and work at heights
- Operate radios, computers, and other equipment
- Bend, stoop, climb, and reach around equipment
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Walk on steep or rough terrain
- Sit and operate equipment for long hours (up to 10+ hours)
- Use hand tools like wrenches and screwdrivers
Working Conditions
Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, and dusty environments. Noise levels can reach up to 90 dB. Exposure to raw materials such as cement, clay, limestone, shale, and chemicals is expected.
