Job summary

Brightpoint in Bloomington, IN is seeking a Doula to provide inclusive, in-home visits for young mothers and families within a strength-based, family-centered model. You will offer outreach, prenatal education and assist with childbirth prep through home visiting and group services.

The role emphasizes emotional support, labor guidance and postpartum care, with a focus on advocating for participant families and strengthening family bonds through community resources.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or human services, OR associate degree plus doula certification, OR associate degree plus two years’ social service experience.

Responsibilities

• Establish trusting relationships with participants and families.
• Maintain regular in-home contact to provide information, education and resources for birth and postpartum.
• Attend and support laboring mother and family or support person(s).
• Assist families in initiating and strengthening the parent-child relationship.
• Improve family support systems by sharing community resources and advocacy.
• Assist in goal setting and birth plan development with families.
• Assess family safety and determine appropriate interventions.
• Develop and facilitate prenatal education and parent support groups.
• Participate in the on-call system, including after-hours and weekend births.

The Doula provides inclusive, in-home visits within a strength-based, family-centered support model to young mothers and fathers who would like support services . The Doula will provide outreach services, prenatal education activities, and assist the family in preparing for childbirth through both home visiting and group based services. As the Doula, you will advocate for the participant families by providing emotional support, parental education, labor and delivery guidance and post partum care.

• ABachelor’s Degree in social work or human service, OR Associate's Degree plus completion of Doula certification training, OR Associate's Degree plus two years' relevant social service experience.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must become SIU Doula Medicaid Certified within 18 months of hire.
• Able to attend in-person family visits and meetings required.
• Proficient in speaking, reading and writing in English and Spanish preferred.
• Valid driver's license, insurance, and a reliable vehicle required.

What You'll Do:

• Establish trusting and nurturing relationships with program participants and their families.
• Maintain regular contact with participants in their home to provide information, education and resources that will prepare the parent and her family for the birth process and postpartum.
• Attend and support the laboring mother and their family or support person(s).
• Assist families in initiating and strengthening the parent-child relationship.
• Improve family support systems by providing information about community networking and advocacy.
• Assist in identifying families in establishing goals and creating a plan for the accomplishment of those goals, including the collaborative development of a birth plan.
• Assess family functioning for safety and ability of family to care for children; determines appropriate interventions.
• Develop and facilitates pre and postnatal education and parent support groups.
• Participate in the on-call system, as required by program, including being present for after hours and weekend births.

Job details:

• Compensation:Range starts at $20.19-$22.00/hr; offers are commensurate with experience. B ilingual candidates may receive additional financial compensation.
• Benefits: Medical/dental/vision insurance, 3+ weeks paid time off in the first year including the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day (PTO increases with tenure); 11 paid holidays, supplemental insurance options, 401(k) with match ( more benefits details here ).
• Location: Hybrid (On site, community based, remote); Home-based and community-based services provided in Tazewell and Woodford Counties; home office located at our Bloomington office.
• Schedule:Full-time, hourly; general business hours with some flexibility required for evening visits and attending after-hours births (on-call).
