Job summary

PROPWR is seeking a DOT Mechanic and Inspector to perform inspection support and post-inspection maintenance to ensure compliance with State and Federal rules. This role supports the DOT team, uses diagnostic tools, and maintains vehicles and equipment to meet safety standards.

The position requires basic mechanical aptitude, valid driver's license, and the ability to work flexible hours including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to operate maintenance tools.
  • Experience performing maintenance on commercial vehicles.
  • Ability to understand and follow written repair instructions.

  • Assist team to ensure vehicles pass Federal, State, and Local inspection requirements.
  • Record reports for inspections, repairs, and regulatory compliance.
  • Use diagnostic software or equipment for troubleshooting and inspections.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment/vehicles and use hand tools safely.
  • Drive company vehicles day or night, in various conditions, safely.

Job Summary

The DOT Mechanic and Inspector performs all duties under constant supervision; learns to inspect vehicles for compliance with State and Federal rules, standards, and regulations; and assists with post-inspection mechanical work to bring company vehicles and equipment to compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Perform post-inspection mechanic duties to bring the organization’s vehicles and equipment to compliance with State and Federal regulations. (i.e., repairs and replacement of brakes, lights, electrical components, suspension, steering, tires, fluids, etc.)
  • Aid DOT Mechanic and Inspector team with ensuring all company vehicles pass Federal, State, and Local inspection regulations
  • Assist with the verification of successful repairs by performing post-repair vehicle and equipment inspections
  • Assist with preparing required reports for submittal through proper channels (i.e., investigation, inspection, repair, and Texas State Inspection (TSI) reports)
  • Usediagnostic software or equipment for troubleshooting, repair guidance, and inspections
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles (i.e., lubricate, repair, replace, or clean parts)
  • Use of hand tools, jacks, jack stands, and chock blocks to adjust, maintain, or repair subassemblies
  • Repair, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systems
  • Use micrometers and gauges to examine parts for damage or excessive wear
  • Assist with maintaining parts inventory for services and repairs
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles
  • Safely and attentively drive company vehicles day or night, on various road types, and in all weather conditions
  • Perform general shop housekeeping duties
  • Ensure work area is free of hazardous objects and substances
  • Maintain compliance with HSE policies by attending all required HSE training sessions, safety meetings, and always utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Must have a basic mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of using maintenance equipment
  • Maintaining a current, valid driver’s license and clean driving record, required
  • Must have experience performing maintenance on commercial vehicles
  • Must be State inspection certified or able to pass the exam to obtain State inspection certification
  • Must be able to understand and follow written directions (i.e., manufacturer troubleshooting and repair instructions)
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, able to effectively interact with personnel at all levels of the organization
  • Organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Must be familiar with, or able to learn, safe hand tool use
  • Must be self-motivated, reliable, independent, and possess a strong work ethic
  • Able to safely perform required duties during a 12+ hour work shift that will include days or nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be physically able to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, walk on uneven surfaces, and climb equipment ladders or stairs throughout the work shift
  • Must be physically able work indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold
  • Must be physically able to safely lift and move up to 50 Lbs. without assistance
