Position Overview:

The Donor Relations Officer is responsible for crafting a variety of Philanthropy Department collateral in support of fundraising campaigns across the Sutter Health network. The Donor Relations Officer brings experience in philanthropy writing or non-profit communications, preferably within a large healthcare organization. The Donor Relations Officer is comfortable working as part of collaborative project teams that can include frontline fundraisers, clinicians, and administrators.

The Donor Relations Officer effectively combines information from internal content experts with their own external research to draft strategic communications that make complex healthcare projects not only understandable, but compelling for donors at all levels, especially those with the ability to make major contributions. The Donor Relations Officer has knowledge of best practices in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors, and serves as the lead writer for case statements, proposals, impact reports, and other key donor communications as assigned.

The Donor Relations Officer is an avid writer who is passionate about writing in their career and committed to continuous improvement. The Donor Relations Officer consistently delivers high-quality drafts on deadline, incorporating feedback from reviewers towards completion of a final product. In addition to their own portfolio of projects, the Donor Relations Officer may provide editing, proofreading, and writing assistance for colleagues to enhance their own efforts to craft effective philanthropy communications.

Job Description:

EDUCATION
Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE: 5 years recent relevant experience

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Proficiency using web design software applications (e.g., FrontPage 2000, DreamWeaver, Flash, Photoshop), and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access) or comparable applications.
  • Knowledge of web technology languages (e.g., HTML, JavaScript) required.
  • Excellent writing, editorial and communications skills are required, along with the ability to manage multiple projects, deal with multiple constituencies and the ability to develop new, relevant technology skills when needed.
  • Familiarity with Bay Area foundation and corporate arena preferred.
  • Unquestionable integrity and strong sense of professional ethics and drive.
  • Computer literacy (as outlined above).
  • High intelligence and the ability to learn quickly because of the complex environment in which he/she will operate. The proven ability to think strategically, analytically and creatively.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and management skills; capable of working both independently and as a team member; results-oriented; self-starter. Ability to handle many projects and issues simultaneously.
  • An understanding of and identification with the goals and objectives of the institution.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required (proper grammar, punctuation, and formatting). Ability to communicate clearly and accurately in both written and oral communications.
  • Ability to work well with volunteers, Foundation staff, and Medical Center staff; prioritize projects, meet deadlines; work independently.

Pay Range is $46.29 to $69.44 / hour. The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
