The Donor Eligibility Coordinator obtains and reviews donor medical and social information to determine donor eligibility for transplant. May act as a medical Director Designee, ensuring donors are safely approved for transplant in compliance with internal Lions World Vision Institute (LWVI) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Good Tissue Practices (GTPs), Eye Bank Association of American (EBAA) and other state and federal regulatory requirements.

Schedule and Pay

  • Work Location: Remote or Hybrid - Employees within 40 miles of our Tampa, FL or Seattle, WA offices will follow a hybrid schedule.
  • Four days/ 10 hour shift (Sat or Sun required)

Wage Range:

  • For Kentucky, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and South Carolina, the range is $20.81-$23.87
  • For Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin the range is $21.90- $25.13
  • For Maryland and Texas, the range is $23.21 -$26.64
  • For Colorado, Oregon, and Pennsylvania, the range is $24.09 - $27.64

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Obtains and reviews donor records, including, but not limited to:
  • Medical Records
  • Gross and final autopsy reports
  • Recovery documentation
  • Screening information
  • Infectious disease test results
  • Laboratory and culture reports
  • Ensures that sufficient information is obtained to determine donor eligibility
  • Complies relevant information from the above sources into a summary for the transplanting physician to review
  • Coordinate with partner tissue and organ donor agencies to share relevant donor information
  • Interact with Medical Examiners, pathologists, hospitals, hospices, laboratories, Primary Care Physicians and other clinical agencies on donor-related issues
  • Determines donor eligibility safely and efficiently, consistent with specified LWVI internal goals and metrics
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in science, nursing or other healthcare-related field is preferred. One or two years of experience in a related field may be substituted for education. Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology and disease processes a plus.

  • Must have strong verbal, written and analytical skills
  • Must have demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Must demonstrate adaptability to change
  • Must be able to effectively work independently and within a team.
  • Must be able to manage both time and priority constraints and to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Must be able to copy with issues pertaining to death
  • Must possess knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of medical and ophthalmic terminology a plus

Travel

Travel is minimal. May be occasionally required to travel by personal or company automobile or air to meeting sites and other locations.

The work environment described here are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to a laboratory-like environment and office like-environment. Open discussions about donor health and circumstances of death occur throughout the day.

Equipment required for this position include but are not limited to, sterile supplies that may contain latex, surgical gloves and sterile attire, standard office space and equipment, standard PC equipment, printers, telephone and headset.

The physical demands representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include but are not limited to regularly required to sit, stand, talk, see and hear; needing to possess conversational hearing, with and without aid, as well as adequate vision; required to possess dexterity to operate standard office equipment; occasionally required to lift 25 pounds or more.
