Job summary

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is seeking a Development professional to serve as Discovery & Engagement Gift Officer. This role manages a donor portfolio, cultivates prospects, and builds a pipeline for major gifts through visits, mail, and calls.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree, 2+ years in nonprofit fundraising, strong communication, and database proficiency. Hybrid work arrangement and evening/weekend concert participation are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• At least two years of nonprofit fundraising experience in a complex institution.
• Strong knowledge of qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality.
• Independent, mature judgment with collaborative problem solving.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn databases and planning software.
• Must have transportation for travel to meetings and donor visits.
• Commitment to attend evening and weekend concerts and events.

Responsibilities

• Develop, direct, and implement strategies to solicit maintenance donors, subscribers, and patrons.
• Develop and execute a robust discovery program with documented processes.
• Prospect and research individual donors under the $2,500 level, subscribers, and ticket buyers.
• Qualify and manage donors for ongoing philanthropic support and potential major gifts.
• Articulate the value of PSO’s goals and programs and support donor engagement initiatives.
• Coordinate direct mail processes for the major gifts division.
• Maintain data integrity in Tessitura and donor reports.
• Prepare and maintain donor listings for publications and reports.
• Respond to donor inquiries and communications.
