Job summary

Octapharma Plasma, Inc. is seeking a Donor Center Technician 2 to help ensure safe, compliant plasma collection and provide excellent donor service. You will monitor donor conditions, maintain equipment, and support training for junior staff in a fast-growing center network.

The role requires adherence to SOPs, strong communication, and flexibility to work varied shifts, with emphasis on accuracy, safety, and donor experience across multiple centers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three months' experience in clerical or customer service preferred.
• State-specific certification or licensing may be required.
• Basic computer knowledge and skills required.
• Ability to read, write and understand English.
• Spanish language ability preferred in some locations.
• Strong customer service and communication skills required.
• Strong organizational abilities are necessary.
• Ability to read, follow and interpret regulations and manuals.
• Ability to understand verbal instructions.
• Ability to read numbers on screening equipment and perform basic math.
• Strong, clear communication is essential.
• Must work day and evening hours, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts.
• Attendance and punctuality are required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure total operation complies with state and federal regulations.
• Maintain a high level of customer service and donor experience.
• Keep the work area clean and stocked with supplies.
• Maintain donor center equipment per procedures and manufacturer instructions.
• Monitor donor conditions for safety and plasma quality.
• Maintain donor confidentiality per policy.
• Record-keeping per Standard Operating Procedures.
• Handle blood/plasma spills and biohazard waste disposition.
• Mentor Donor Center Technician I and serve as a designated trainer.
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance on center performance and CAPA.
• Troubleshoot machine alarms and perform daily/monthly/QC tasks.
• Perform FIFO tasks as assigned.
• Verify donor eligibility per SOPs.
• Perform finger sticks for Microhematocrit and Total Protein.
• Collect and store plasma samples per procedures.
• Handle tested and untested products appropriately.
• Organize samples in a walk-in freezer per SOPs.
• Prepare products and samples for shipments per procedures.
• Monitor temperatures and report issues promptly.
• Perform other job-related tasks as assigned.

This Is What You'll Do

• Ensures total operation is compliant with state and federal regulations (e.g. FDA approved Standard Operating Procedures, OSHA, CLIA, and GMP) to maintain the highest production standards and ensure facility compliance.
• Maintains high level of customer service and positive donor experience.
• Maintains cleanliness of work area to ensure a clean and professional environment. Stocks and maintains an orderly work area with sufficient supplies to meet production demands.
• Maintains Donor Center equipment based on Standard Operating Procedures and applicable manufacturer instructions.
• Monitor donor conditions, employing techniques to ensure donor comfort, safety, and the quality of plasma product.
• Maintains Donor confidentiality based on company policy.
• Maintains complete and accurate record keeping per company's Standard Operating Procedures.
• Cleans any blood or plasma spills and performs proper procedure for disposition of biohazardous waste.
• Responsible for mentoring Donor Center Technician I, able to drive training efficiencies to ensure timeliness and compliance and is a Designated Trainer.
• Partners with Quality Assurance on overall Donor Floor performance (favorable performance observations, CAPA implementations and continuous improvement initiatives).
• Responsible for troubleshooting machine alarms/alerts and perform QCs routinely (defined as daily/monthly) and periodic (defined as quarterly/annually) on equipment.
• Perform First In-First Out tasks as assigned.
• Ensures that donor meets eligibility criteria based on Standard Operating Procedures.
• Performs finger stick for Microhematocrit and Total Protein determination.
• Prompt and sterile collection and storage of plasma product and samples per Standard Operating Procedures.
• Handles tested and untested product, as well as product with unsuitable test results.
• Properly organize samples and product in a walk-in storage freezer per Standard Operating Procedures.
• Prepare product and samples for shipments, per Standard Operating Procedures and federal transportation regulations.
• Monitor freezer and refrigerator temperatures and immediately inform appropriate personnel if equipment is not functioning properly. Record variance if applicable.
• Performs other job-related tasks, as assigned.

This Is What It Takes

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
• Three (3) months' experience in clerical or customer service position preferred.
• Specific certification or licensing based on State requirements.
• Basic computer knowledge and skills required.
• Ability to speak, read, write (legibly and accurately), and understand English required.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred (location specific).
• Strong customer service skills required.
• Strong organizational skills required.
• Ability to read, follow, and interpret regulations, instructions and manuals required.
• Ability to understand verbal instruction required.
• Ability to read numbers on screening equipment and perform basic mathematical calculations required.
• Effective communication skills required.
• Must be able to work day and evening hours, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts on a frequent basis.

Physical Requirements

• Always utilize all required and appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Ability to tug, lift, and pull up to thirty-five pounds.
• Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel.
• Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens.
• Ability to view video display terminal less than 18" away from face for extended periods of time, up to four (4) hours at a time.
• Enter an environment with a temperature of -40°C or colder according to Standard Operating Procedures.
• Ability to perform precise tasks that require repetitive small motor skills, such as drawing blood for diagnostic tests.
• Ability to use assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication.
