Job summary

St. Francis House is seeking a Donations Processor & Van Driver to support the Clothing Program. You will sort and distribute clothing donations, assist with pickup runs, and collaborate with staff and volunteers to keep a clean, organized space for guests.<\/p>

The role requires a valid driver’s license, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and a compassionate approach to helping homeless individuals in a fast-paced environment. Full-time schedule applies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience providing customer service to vulnerable populations is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive the agency van.
  • Experience with HMIS (Clarity) a plus.
  • Proficiency in English and strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, sorts, prepares and distributes SFH clothing donations.
  • Notifies Clothing Supervisor regarding inventory and emergency needs.
  • Maintains stocked and organized sorting and storage spaces.
  • Communicates about donation quality and non-usable items.
  • Performs van driver duties including pickup and loading/unloading.
  • Adheres to all regulations and agency code of conduct.

Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday; 6:30AM - 2:30PM

Job Summary

The Donations Processor & Van Driver supports the daily operations of the St. Francis House Clothing Program, which provides clothing to 60–90 shelter guests each day. Responsibilities include serving as the first point of contact for guests receiving clothing, picking up donations, and helping sort and process incoming clothing and other donated items. The role works collaboratively with Donations Processor & Van Drivers and Guest Services staff to provide compassionate, dignified refuge services that support guests as they work toward housing, income, and behavioral health stability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Receives, sorts, prepares and distributes SFH clothing donations.
  • Notifies Clothing Supervisor regarding inventory of clothing and offers input on emergency clothing needs.
  • Ensures that the clothing distribution areas are appropriately stocked and maintained each day to meet program needs.
  • Communicates with Clothing Supervisor about the quality of incoming donations and non‑usable items.
  • Maintains clean, organized and well‑stocked sorting and storage spaces including emergency clothing closet.
  • Maintains general upkeep duties within clothing program spaces (including trash removal, floor upkeep, cleaning and re‑organizing as needed).
  • Works collaboratively with SFH Volunteers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to agency code of conduct.
  • Fulfills van driver duties in conjunction with Clothing Team which include:
  • Timely pick‑up donations as well as loading/unloading products into and out of the van.
  • Monitoring the vehicle condition and notifying supervisor of concerns.
  • Strict adherence to all city, local, state, and federal regulations regarding operation of a vehicle.
Requirements
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and willingness to drive agency van for donation pick up and drop off.
  • Patience, compassion, and a desire to work with the homeless population in a fast‑paced and low‑threshold environment.
  • Proficiency in English; Spanish or Haitian Creole a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to function well in a fast‑paced and stressful environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Further education in human services‑related fields is a plus.
  • Experience providing customer service to vulnerable populations.
  • Experience with the HMIS (Clarity) database is a plus.
  • Experience with de‑escalation techniques or crisis intervention is a plus.
  • An active driver’s license in good standing is required.
  • Retail experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) is a plus.
  • Lived experience with homelessness or recovery is a plus.
Work Environment & Activities
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Prolonged standing and moving throughout multi‑level buildings.
  • Constantly operate computers and other office machinery, such as calculators, copy machine, computer printer, 2‑way radio.
  • Work hours may change based on the needs of the program/department and/or agency.
  • Weekend and holiday schedule hours may be required.
  • Ability to adapt to seasonal temperature changes.
  • Drive and maintain SFH van.
