Job summary

SOME (So Others Might Eat) seeks a Donations Aide to receive, sort, store, and distribute donations at our Washington, DC campus. You will assist donors, provide receipts, maintain inventory, and help keep the donations area organized. Requires HS diploma or GED and 1–3 years with the homeless or mentally ill.

Schedule: Sun–Thu, 8:00–4:00. This safety-sensitive role may involve background checks and possibly driving for pickups.

Qualifications

  • Required: HS Diploma or GED; 1-3 yrs. experience working with the homeless or mentally ill
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are essential in a donor-facing role
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and handle inventory accurately

Responsibilities

  • Receive donations and provide donation receipts
  • Answer donor questions and explain SOME Programs
  • Sort clothing items and label by size; maintain inventory and display clothing in Clothing Room for clients
  • Sort food items and toiletries and store in warehouse
  • Stock food pantry and label items for expiration
  • Enforce food and clothing distribution rules for clients
  • Maintain cleanliness of donations room, warehouse, and storage areas
  • Oversee and supervise volunteer groups
  • Drive truck to pick up donations, as needed

SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in Washington, DC, helping them break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them.

Our more than 30 programs throughout the district provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare, and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Compensation:
We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $18.40 to $19.49 and is commensurate with experience.

The Donations Aide receives, sorts, stores, and distributes non-monetary donations on a daily basis.

This position is located at our main campus on O Street in NW Washington, DC.

Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm (40 hours per week)

Qualifications:

Required: HS Diploma or GED; 1-3 yrs. experience working with the homeless or mentally ill

Preferred License/Certification: Driver's license, CPR/First Aid

Expected Contributions:

  • Receive donations and provide donation receipts

Reports To: In Kind Services Manager

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing before or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. May be required to sit or stand for long periods. Must be able to move around all levels/floors of the building.
