Job description

For critical care registered nurses and respiratory therapists, some moments stay with you forever—the families you support, the patients you fight for, and the lives forever changed by compassionate care. At LifeSource, your critical care experience can carry that impact even further. As a Critical Care Organ Donation Coordinator, you will help guide families and hospital teams through one of life’s most meaningful moments, honoring each donor’s gift while creating hope and healing for recipients and their loved ones. This is an opportunity to use the clinical skills, steadiness, and heart you have built at the bedside in a mission-driven role where every day connects clinical excellence with the profound purpose of saving lives.

WORK SCHEDULE

.9 FTE, 12-hour night shifts (2000-0830) schedule that will include weekends, and holidays. Preferred scheduling process. Will require travel within the service area (MN, ND, SD) by ground or air, as needed for case activity. (Please note: This is for our cohort that starts Nov. 9th)

As a Donation Coordinator, you'll advance our lifesaving mission by performing the following duties:
  • Engage in on-site clinical care coordination and facilitation of organ donation opportunities.
  • Evaluate the suitability for donation opportunities through medical record review, medical-social history evaluation, and consultation with LifeSource colleagues and transplant surgeons.
  • Ensure proper clinical management of critically ill patients including ventilator management, hemodynamic management, fluid management, laboratory and imaging interpretations to maximize organs available for transplantation.
  • Demonstrate skill in medical crisis management, employ critical thinking to evaluate the components of an issue, determine an appropriate course of action, and respond appropriately using established resources and guidance from others.
Qualifications
  • Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of critical care or emergency patient care management in a hospital, transplant center, or organ procurement organization setting. (examples of relevant hospital units include ICU, ED, PACU, Cath Lab)
  • Requires a minimum of one (1) year of experience as a licensed Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, or OPO Clinical Donation Coordinator
  • Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Prefer prior experience as Critical Care Registered Nurse or Critical Care Respiratory Therapist.
  • Must maintain a valid driver license and have reliable personal automobile to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines.
  • Proven successful demonstration of relationship management skills with the ability to problem-solve effectively and efficiently.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills to confidently execute reasonable and sound decision making.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including effective written correspondence, active listening, and professional customer service response at all levels.
  • Proven self-directed, motivated contributor with a strong initiative and ability to function autonomously.
  • Proven ability to establish priorities and work effectively within a team environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • .9 FTE, variable 12-hour schedule that will include a mix of nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to adjust schedule to accommodate organizational needs, including times of high clinical volume. May be required to work for extended periods of time with few breaks when on case activity.
  • Must be able to travel within the service area (MN, ND, SD) by ground or air.
  • Must report on-site within 1 hour of notification.
  • Affected team members in OSHA Exposure Category I are regularly exposed to bloodborne pathogens and handle materials that could spread infection (more than one opportunity per month). Additionally, their position may require interaction with staff in patient or donor areas in a hospital or medical examiner office setting.
  • Frequently lift objects up to 50 pounds and carry short distances.
  • Must be able to follow and successfully complete category immunization, TSA PreCheck, health screening and background check requirements.

Projected offer rate range: $40-60 /hour, based on years of relevant nursing/RT experience and education.
