Domestic Violence Shelter - Clinical Therapist

The Clinical Therapist provides counseling and case management services in a trauma-informed care environment for women fleeing domestic violence and child witnesses of partner abuse. Responsibilities include clinical assessments for both adults and children, focused individual and group counseling, and oversight of residents' case management needs, trauma recovery, safety, and discharge planning. The work schedule is flexible, including some evening hours to accommodate residents' schedules.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts clinical assessments of new clients, including safety planning and establishing short-term therapeutic goals within three business days of admission.
  • Collaborates with clients and the clinical team to develop comprehensive plans addressing safety, legal options, financial remedies, housing, mental health, and other goals based on client needs.
  • Utilizes case managers to implement case management plans and provides child and family therapy to address issues stemming from witnessing domestic violence.
  • Performs psychosocial assessments of new adult clients within one week of admission and meets with residents at least twice weekly to provide crisis intervention and counseling.
  • Gathers previous treatment information (with client permission), coordinates with providers, and makes referrals as needed, ensuring continuity of care post-discharge.
  • Offers weekly support and parenting groups in English and Spanish on domestic violence, victim recovery, and empowerment.
  • Participates in weekly case consultations, supervision, and training on trauma-informed care and domestic violence; conducts care presentations as assigned.
  • Maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation, ensuring confidentiality of survivor records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, with flexibility for program needs.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field, with at least two years of relevant clinical experience, preferably in partner abuse or domestic violence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving diverse communities.
  • Current Maryland license at the independent clinical practitioner level (LGPC, LCPC, LMSW, or LCSW).
  • Expertise in Child and Family Therapy.
