Inellas will help survivors learn new skills that empower them to live independent of abuse, educate the survivors and public concerning the rights of victims of abuse and advocate for the end of Domestic Violence. Inellas Restoration Center, where lives are restored.

Job Title: Domestic Violence Advocate Group Facilitator

Position Summary: Deliver group meetings that include counseling and education of domestic violence in order to penetrate the cycle of violence and increase the safety of victims and their children. The group facilitator is responsible for helping participants reach decisions and accomplish goals. Your duties include working with groups to clarify meeting content, objectives and to establish ground rules that govern behavior. The facilitator duties will select appropriate methods and tools that will enable participants to achieve results. When problems or issues come up, facilitators work with the group to resolve conflict and return to goals. Other duties as a group facilitator include creating environments that allow civil dialogue and input from all participants and above all -- remaining neutral throughout the process.

As a facilitator, you must be comfortable with working with group dynamics while managing the meeting or activity process. You must be competent at making observations and recognizing when interactions, situations or group dynamics change. And if there are disruptive behaviors, promptly intervene to disperse or extinguish them.

Facilitators are assertive enough to get things on track with appropriate suggestions or redirecting group efforts. Group facilitators are also able to summarize chunks of information for clarity and understanding.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Ensure professional relationships with clients to create an atmosphere of accountability, responsibility and support.
  • Confront and educate participants on potential offensive behavior, actions, and language.
  • Assist in co-facilitation of group meetings.
  • Actively seek to enhance knowledge of community resources relevant to the clients we serve.
  • Coordinate responsibilities with team members to ensure client needs are met.
  • Update client files and services provided in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Achieve productivity expectations pertaining to service hours and caseload.
  • Maintain a cohesive co-facilitation team.
  • Respectfully work with other team members and provide constructive feedback to co-facilitator to help improve their skills.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

* MSW preferred. B.A. or A.A., Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Social Sciences from an accredited college or university.

* Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.

* Demonstrated computer experience; Microsoft Word

* 1 year or more experience in) in a human service setting delivering group and individual services to disadvantaged clients; providing direct service advocacy on behalf of victims of domestic violence and their families preferred.

* 3 to 5 years or more of experience providing counseling, advocacy, and /or case management services to families (relevant volunteer and internship experiences included preferred.

* Group learning techniques, problem solving, conflict resolution, team building, planning and organizing.

* Completion of an Illinois Certified 40-Hour Domestic Violence Training required.

* Completion of an Illinois Certified 20-Hour Partner Abuse Intervention Facilitation Training preferred.

* Knowledge of victims', children and youth issues specifically related to domestic violence.

* Skills and capacity to manage potential offensive behavior, actions, and language of participants.

* Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle a variety of tasks, and meet established deadlines.

* Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a wide variety of people, including but not limited to board members, staff, volunteers, interns, government officials, community partners, organizational donors and media.

* Commitment to and experience in working with people from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic backgrounds.

* Co-facilitating skills; the ability to work well with clients, stakeholders and team-members.

* Must have reliable transportation

* Fluency in Spanish, oral and written, preferred.

Schedule and Location:

This position will work a minimum of 3 hours per week, every other Saturday. This position will need availability and flexibility with service times, factor in administrative work time, set-up and breakdown of group meetings and will need to attend a weekly team meeting, date and time may vary. Location: Maywood, IL and west suburbs surrounding area

* Salary Range: $25 - $35 per hour
