Job description

Dog Care Specialist

The Comforted Canine is currently looking for self-employed Dog Walkers and Dog Sitters (Dog Care Specialists) for our Los Angeles metro service area.

Dog Care Specialists earn competitive pay averaging $20 and up for dog walks and $25 and up for dog sitting in the Los Angeles metro area. Other compensation includes extra pay on holidays, accepting short notice requests, client referrals, positive feedback by your clients, and more! Most client requests will be within a 10-mile radius of your home. This is a part-time position that keeps you busier some weeks than other weeks according to need. The number of clients you're provided with depends solely on your availability and the demand in your location.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking for a rewarding, flexible, self-employed position working around dogs.

Please note this is a self-employed position and NOT an employee W2 position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

You can choose to be either a Dog Walker or a Dog Sitter (or both!).

As a Dog Walker, you will:

  • Meet with each client and dog beforehand at their home for a Meet and Greet
  • Walk dogs in a group and privately, either in the neighborhood or location that you work out with the client
  • Socialize with the dog, finding creative ways to engage and comfort them.
  • Other typical duties include refreshing water, cleaning up waste, administering medications, and sending a visit update with pictures
  • Provide outstanding customer service to both the dogs and their owners

As a Dog Sitter, you will:

  • Meet with each client and dog beforehand at their home for a Meet and Greet
  • Reference the instructions given by your client and perform the prescribed care with attention to detail according to what your client has outlined. Typical tasks include a short walk, potty break, food and water, cleaning up waste, administering medications, and sending a visit update with pictures
  • Socialize with the dog, finding creative ways to engage and comfort them.
  • You may also perform light housesitting tasks as contracted such as performing a home security check, retrieving mail and packages, putting out or retrieving trash bins, and watering plants
  • Provide outstanding customer service to both the dogs and their owners
WHAT TRAITS WE LOOK FOR IN A DOG CARE SPECIALIST:
  • At least 18 years old
  • Proven experience caring for dogs
  • Compassion, patience, and reliability
  • Organized, systematic, and able to keep track of client schedules and keys
  • Able to handle unexpected and emergency situations
  • Able to perform work that can be very physically and mentally demanding at times
  • The ability to walk, run, pull, push, bend or reach for extended periods of time
  • Capable of handling all sizes of canines from small to large
  • Possess a smartphone that has internet access to download apps as well as texting and camera capabilities
  • Ability to pass a criminal background screening and reference check
  • Certification in pet first aid/CPR or any experience with administering oral medications, injections, subcutaneous fluids, ointments, and other medications is a big plus but not required!

Our highest peak times for dog walking are Monday-Friday and for dog sitting the winter holidays, so we are strongly looking for someone who is available for either of these times depending on whether they want to dog walk or dog sit.

FLEXIBLE PET SITTING WORK:

This is a great flexible side job! Since it is a self-employed opportunity, it is great for those with unconventional availability and part-time students or workers. While we need you to be reliable, there is flexibility within time frames.

For dog walks, it will typically be a morning or afternoon pack walk or morning, afternoon, or evening private walk.

For dog sitting, we offer four time frames for them to choose from: morning (6-12pm), afternoon (12-5pm), evening (5-10pm), anytime (6 am - 10 pm) or overnight visits (10 hour stay in the home).

We match you to clients who choose shifts that fit your availability. And, then you just need to come within those times, trying to keep it close to the same time each day for the sake of the dogs who crave consistency.

About The Comforted Canine:

We are a leading provider of professional dog walkers and dog sitters to busy dog parents across our service areas. We pride ourselves in our professional conduct. Our partner walkers and sitters care for dogs across a wide spectrum of personalities, ages, and temperaments--always providing individualized care.

This means that the sitters always do exactly as the client has instructed us to do and immediately notify them of any issues or concerns with their dog or home. We also provide a fun and flexible opportunity for dog lovers throughout the areas we operate in.
