ABOUT LILY’S LEGACY SENIOR DOG SANCTUARY
Lily's Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary (“LLSDS”) is a primarily volunteer-run nonprofit organization based in Petaluma, California. Our mission is to provide a safe and loving home for large breed senior dogs (50+ pounds, 7 years or older) who have been displaced from their homes and/or abandoned for any reason, until they are adopted, placed with a foster guardian, or remain as permanent residents at the Sanctuary.
POSITION SUMMARY
As the Dog & Volunteer Activities Coordinator, you will work with the Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director in coordinating the day-to day dog enrichment and care at the sanctuary. Through mental stimulation, training and socialization, daily enrichment activities aid in the wellbeing of the dogs to ultimately help them find their forever homes. You are responsible for coordinating daily enrichment programs and maintaining a haven for the senior dogs at Lily’s Legacy with the following activities:
· Facilitating and monitoring dog-to-dog socialization and playgroups to integrate dogs with similar play styles and energies
· Monitoring dog behavior and working with Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director on training, as needed
· Supervision and hands-on management of volunteers and cuddlers during their shifts for accurate and consistent dog care and safety
· Day-to-day oversight of the care and activities of the dogs in residence, including ensuring a clean and safe environment
· Keeping other staff members informed on the dogs’ health, behavior and well-being
· Working alongside Lily’s vet tech and our veterinary clinic to ensure timely medical treatment and care
· Keeping up with email communications for the above in a timely manner
POSITION HOURS OF WORK
· 5 days per week, 9:30AM – 5:30 PM, with some flexibility in schedule / one weekend day required
· Must be able to occasionally work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays
· Full-time positions receive health insurance stipend
IDEAL CANDIDATES HAVE
· A passion for homeless senior dogs, their plight, educating others about the joys of adopting them.
·REQUIRED:Minimum 5 years of experience with training and socializing dogs, proper handling, and caring for dogs in shelter or rescue environment
· Interest in learning about, or have knowledge of the medical care for our dogs
· Ability to work well with a variety of people and build relationships
· Ability to maintain a respectful and collaborative work environment
· Must be a Team Player
· Prefer candidates with a four-year college or university degree or related dog management training
· Must have a valid CA driver’s license with a good driving record

We are on a serene 5-acre property on the east side of Petaluma, CA.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Rural, pastoral setting, on acreage in otherwise residential area. Collaborative working environment in shared office space. Job requires daily in person, telephone, and written communication with a diverse and sometimes changing LLSDS team, partnering agencies and organizations, and the public. Requires walking and outdoor tasks, sometimes in inclement weather. Requires some driving to local or regional events, meetings, or appointments. Requires bending, lifting, squatting, and sitting/rising, consistent with responsible and compassionate animal care and management of the sanctuary environment.
LLSDS operates in a manner that is by intention professional, prudent, respectful, and educated. Despite this standard, when working with and serving animals and the public, and leading a team of volunteers and staff, unforeseen challenges and hazards can arise, and this position requires a person able to accept and meet these challenges, personally and in concert with others. These challenges may include, but not be limited to, the management of unruly, or dangerous animals in a humane manner, communication with disgruntled or hostile members of the public, grief, loss and emotional strain, fast-paced changing/evolving expectations and priorities, a workload that at times can be stressful, canine emergency medical events, and exposure to canine parasites and infectious diseases, some of which (though rarely) are transmissible to humans.
