Job summary

Destination Pet LLC is seeking a dedicated Dog Trainer for our Taming the Wild team. You will create training plans, teach commands to dogs and their owners, and reinforce good behavior while addressing various behavioral needs.

Ideal candidates have at least one year of professional dog training experience. Training certification is preferred, and the role requires evening and weekend availability; CGC/AKC evaluators are a plus. Compensation includes $12.00–$14.00 per hour plus 5% commission.

REPORTS TO: General Manager

PAY: $12.00 - $14.00 /hour DOE + 5% commission

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Create a training plan for the dog.
• Teach commands to the dog and pet parent.
• Be patient with a stubborn dog.
• Teach pet parents about dog behavior.
• Understand a pet parent’s needs.
• Work with the pet parent to teach them about their dog.
• Teach pet parents how to reinforce good behavior.
• Listen to pet parent concerns.
• Performs add-on services as needed.
• Follows procedures for the safe handling of all pets.

REQUIREMENTS

• Expertise & Experience: Must be a pet fanatic – pets are part of our family!
• One year of professional dog training experience required.
• Training certification preferred.
• Knowledge of various dog commands.
• Knowledge of different dog breeds.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to identify pet behavioral issues.
• Ability to create a plan of action for pet parents.
• CGC Evaluator, AKC Evaluator.
• Physical: Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
• Must frequently lift 40 pounds.
• Must be able to be on feet for the duration of your shift.
• Must be able to stand, walk and climb stairs frequently.
• Must be able to handle dogs on leashes.
• Comfortable handling dogs of all breeds and sizes.
• Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to disinfectant/sanitation chemicals, animal dander and excretions.
• Other duties as assigned.
