Position Overview

As a Petco Certified Dog Trainer you will provide individual training sessions, group classes and give guidance on nutrition, services and supplies to help pet parents and dogs achieve a well‑behaved and healthy lifestyle.

Position Responsibilities

Dog Training Services

• Complete Petco’s 6‑week Dog Trainer Instructor Program and all associated Workday learning and DTIP workbook materials.
• Recommend and sell appropriate training programs and supplies.
• Track training session details, progress and client feedback.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
• Collaborate with grooming and veterinary teams to provide holistic solutions.
• Keep training skills current through ongoing education.

360‑Degree Guest Solutions

• Engage guests in selecting products and services that match their needs.
• Build future business by understanding the guest’s pet(s) and leveraging digital tools.
• Show knowledge of animal health, welfare and handling.
• Support the Pet Care Center performance objectives.
• Ensure merchandise is stocked, accurately priced and displayed.
• Handle cash register transactions and support the omni‑shopping experience.
• Follow operational guidelines, policies and procedures.
• Promote teamwork, inclusion and collaboration.
• Complete other duties and special projects as assigned.
• Refer inquiries to the Leader on Duty when necessary.

Other Essential Duties

• Use selling behaviors to identify and meet customer needs.
• Follow safety protocols to protect partners, guests and pets.
• Contribute to a collaborative culture focused on pet wellness.
• Participate in development programs to grow skills and career.

Certification Requirements

• Stage 1: Complete the ‘Dog Training Instructor Program (DTIP)’.
• Stage 2: Operate the dog training business at a Pet Care Center with marketing support.
• Stage 3: Finish the Health & Wellness Certification Program for Dogs.
• Accelerated training may be available for candidates with prior experience.
