Job summary

Fairfield County Ohio is seeking a kennel assistant to maintain the cleanliness of kennels, walk aisles, launder towels and bedding, and disinfect public and non‑public areas throughout the shelter. You will move, feed, water and bathe dogs as requested, supervise interns and volunteers, and document medical procedures with the Dog Warden’s authorization.

Customer service is provided during stray identifications, adoptions and follow-ups, and you will run enrichment activities including daily

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Valid Ohio driver's license may be required.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.

Responsibilities

• Maintains the cleanliness of kennels throughout the day.
• Moves, feeds, waters, and baths dogs as requested.
• Administers shelter intake exams, vaccinations, medications with authorization from the Dog Warden.
• Provides customer service through stray identification, adoption interactions and follow-ups.
• Provides dog enrichment including daily walks, play groups, and basic obedience training.

Schedule:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Tuesday, Thursday: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM Saturday and Sunday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Please note that while the shelter is closed on Sundays,
working both weekend days is a mandatory requirement for this role. Employees can expect to receive consecutive days off during the week, such as Tuesday and Wednesday or Wednesday and Thursday.

• Maintains the cleanliness of kennels throughout the day. Walks kennel aisles and ensures that all kennels, walkways, and trench drains are mess-free always. Launders towels, beds, and other soiled articles. Disinfects shelter facilities including kennels, walkway, garage, adoption room, puppy room, and all public and non-public areas.


• Responsible for moving dogs, feeding and watering dogs, and bathing dogs as requested. Helps to supervise interns and volunteers.


• Administers shelter intake exams, vaccinations, medications and documents all medical procedures with authorization from the Dog Warden.


• Provides customer service through stray identification and verification, adoption interactions, dog-dog interactions, adoption counseling and follow-ups.


• Provides dog enrichment including but not limited to: daily walking and exercising dogs which may be 60+#, supervising dog play groups, working on basic obedience training, daily routines of tactile, scent, oral, auditory and visual enrichment. Utilize various tools and equipment to provide proper stimulation and education.
