Position Overview
TheCanine Coach plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, health, and happiness of the dogs in our care. Canine Coaches supervise open play, maintain a clean and safe play environment, and support the overall experience for both dogs and pet parents.
This position requires individuals who are energetic, responsible, and passionate about dogs. Coaches must be attentive, proactive, and capable of managing multiple dogs in a structured open-play environment while maintaining Dogtopia’s safety and service standards.
Key Responsibilities
Dog Supervision & Safety
- Supervise dogs in open play and ensure safe, appropriate interactions between dogs.
- Monitor dog behavior and body language to prevent conflicts and maintain a positive play environment.
- Follow Dogtopia’sopen-play safety protocols and intervene when necessary to redirect behavior.
- Ensure proper playgroup management and maintain safe dog-to-dog interactions.
- Immediately report any injuries, incidents, or concerns to management.
Dog Care & Wellbeing
- Ensure all dogs receive appropriate attention, exercise, and engagement throughout their visit.
- Assist with rest breaks and rotation schedules as required.
- Monitor dogs for signs of illness, stress, or discomfort.
- Support enrichment activities and structured play when appropriate.
Facility Cleanliness & Sanitation
- Maintain a clean and sanitary playroom environment.
- Perform routine cleaning duties including disinfecting floors, equipment, and play areas.
- Quickly address accidents and maintain hygiene standards.
- Follow all company protocols related to sanitation and safety.
Customer Experience Support
- Support front desk staff when necessary by assisting with dog movement between playrooms and suites.
- Help ensure smooth drop-off and pick-up experiences.
- Maintain professionalism when interacting with pet parents.
- Represent Dogtopia’s brand values through positive and friendly interactions.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with other Canine Coaches and leadership team members.
- Participate in training and ongoing education regarding dog behavior and safety.
- Support team members in maintaining a positive and efficient work environment.
Qualifications
- Mustlove dogs and enjoy working in a dog-focused environment.
- Ability to read and understandbasic dog body language and behavior.
- Strong attention to detail and situational awareness.
- Comfortable working in afast-paced, active environment.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and confident when managing multiple dogs.
- Reliable, responsible, and professional.
Previous experience in pet care, dog daycare, veterinary clinics, kennels, or animal shelters is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift up to30 pounds
- Frequent bending, squatting, reaching, and kneeling
- Working in an environment withmultiple dogs, barking, and active movement
- Maintaining awareness of surroundings at all times
