Responsibilities

• Provide appropriate diet, water, and enrichment to animals as directed.
• Move animals within the facility and correctly enter locations in PetPoint.
• Monitor health and behavior; report concerns to management and medical staff.
• Perform humane euthanasia when required and in accordance with regulations.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and inform management of replenishment needs.
• Record notes on animal behavior and care in PetPoint; participate in rounds with the Shelter Senior Manager.

Ensures all animals’ nutrition, housing, enrichment and other care needs are met on a daily basis.Job Duties include but are not limited to:* Clean, disinfect, and maintain all animal housing spaces on a daily and continuous basis, adhering to CAA Standard Operating Procedures and protocols for animal care, kennel maintenance, sanitation, parasite and disease control, and other animal care practices.* Trains new hires in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.* Is responsible for daily animal care operations, (All shifts are covered, proper cleaning protocols are being followed and all assigned daily tasks are completed).* Provide appropriate diet, clean water, and enrichment to all animals according to SOPs and as directed by management and medical personnel.* Move animals around the facility as directed and ensure that all animal locations and stages are correctly entered into PetPoint.* Monitor animals’ health and behaviors, and record observations at least daily according to SOP. Report signs of illness and behavior concerns as directed to appropriate personnel.* Perform and/or assist with humane euthanasia.* Keep all animal areas stocked with food, litter, cleaning supplies, and other essential items, informing Managers when items need replenishment or repair* Record clear and concise notes regarding animal behavior and care in PetPoint* Completes annual employee reviews in collaboration with Shelter Senior Manager.* Performs rounds with team on assigned days.## QualificationsKnowledge, skills, and abilities required:* Follow the mission of CAA.* Be familiar with all shelter Standard Operating Procedures and the Employee Handbook.* Is a Self-starter* Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions and animal handling and behavior.* Ability to handle animals safely and with patience and gentleness.* Ability to represent CAA in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers and staff.* Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within CAA, with volunteers, the public and be a team player.* Must be patient, courteous and work well under stressful conditions.* Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and computerized format.* Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.* Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures.* Ability to manage the emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment in a positive, professional manner.* Familiarity with basic word processing systems.Physical Requirements:* Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted regularly, 50+ pounds assisted* Ability to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis, including but not limited to: lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, standing, squatting and bending.
