Job summary

Everforth Apex Systems in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Software Engineer / Systems Engineer with PowerBuilder expertise to support DoD logistics and business IT systems, requiring an active secret clearance. The role focuses on reverse engineering legacy apps, documenting specs, and bridging PowerBuilder with modern architectures.

You will work in a hybrid environment on a 6‑month engagement with potential conversion, contributing to SRS/SDD development, code reviews, and Agile ceremonies while

Qualifications

• Active secret clearance
• IAT II certification
• Bachelor degree in CS, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields
• 3+ YOE software design, development, and testing
• 1+ YOE supporting DoD business IT

Responsibilities

• Systems Engineering (70%) - Reverse‑engineer legacy PowerBuilder applications to validate system behavior and requirements.
• Develop detailed System Requirements Specifications (SRS) and System Design Documents (SDD).
• Leverage AI-enabled tools to assist with documentation and analysis.
• Collaborate with SMEs to validate requirements against existing system functionality.
• Translate complex technical concepts into clear, structured documentation.
• Support modernization efforts by bridging legacy PowerBuilder systems with web‑based architectures.
• Software Development (30%) - Maintain and enhance PowerBuilder applications (2017 R3+).
• Perform database development and optimization using Sybase ASE, Oracle PL/SQL, SQL Server.
• Conduct code reviews using Crucible and JIRA.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and development cycles.
