Manager, Transportation

The Manager, Transportation will foster a culture focused on people, safety, service, and cost by engaging with drivers, providing best-in-class service to customers, and ensuring safe and profitable operations. They will leverage their transportation operations experience to manage personnel and drive efficient transportation activities, ensuring the safe, accurate, and timely outbound shipments to customers and other distribution centers within the organization.

This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible for the DoD SkillBridge Internship. The service member must be within the last 12 months of their active-duty contract. This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Lead with a safety mindset, ensuring injury-free interactions for associates, customers, and the public. Promote safety procedures, processes, and training to cultivate a safety-first culture in the Transportation department.
  2. Oversee and develop drivers and transportation associates through coaching, training, problem resolution, and leading by example. Ensure all are trained in job duties, safety, and legal responsibilities.
  3. Discuss performance with senior management and create plans to address gaps.
  4. Foster open communication and motivate associates to meet department goals and objectives.
  5. Supervise the work and productivity of drivers and clerical staff, driving engagement, retention, and embodying US Foods values.
  6. Participate in hiring, review performance, coach, and deliver disciplinary actions.
  7. Monitor production goals, maintain accuracy, troubleshoot delivery issues, and ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
  8. Identify waste, improve processes for safety and efficiency, and conduct safety meetings.
  9. Oversee maintenance of driver qualification files and investigate accidents to prevent recurrence.
  10. Schedule shifts using planning tools like Microsoft Excel.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
Supervision

Direct supervision of union and/or non-union drivers.

Relationships

Internal: Transportation leaders, drivers, warehouse leaders, departments like Sales. External: Customers.

Work Environment

Frequent travel, including time on the road with exposure to noise and vibration. Office work on a computer.

Minimum Qualifications
  • At least three years of experience in transportation/delivery or warehouse distribution.
  • At least one year of supervisory experience.
  • Driving experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Broad knowledge of transportation operations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Understanding of DOT, OSHA, and inventory regulations.
  • Ability to interpret financial and operational data.
  • Basic computer skills.
Travel

Approximately 10% travel required for meetings and training.

Education/Training

High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.

Physical Qualifications

Ability to perform activities such as driving, pushing/pulling, climbing, grasping, manipulating objects, and manual dexterity tasks for specified durations.

Compensation varies based on experience, skills, location, and other factors. The expected base salary range is $55,000 - $90,000.
