Job description

AMPI owns seven Midwest-based manufacturing plants where 10 percent of the nation's American-type cheese, processed cheese, and butter is produced. The cooperative's award-winning cheese, butter, and powdered dairy products are marketed to foodservice, retail, and food ingredient customers. In 2019, the co-op launched its Dinner Bell Creamery brand and the Co-op Crafted promise, emphasizing over 50 years of dairy farm families partnering with skilled buttermakers and cheesemakers.

This internship provides an opportunity for a qualified candidate to participate in a training program aimed at potential full-time employment in a similar role. DoD SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from AMPI, as they continue to receive military pay and benefits.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Report safety, food safety, and food quality issues to management.
  2. Maintain heightened food safety and quality responsibilities.
  3. Provide effective maintenance support, respond promptly to issues, and make adjustments to ensure safety, product integrity, and efficiency.
  4. Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, fall protection, and confined space procedures.
  5. Maintain clean work areas and ensure tool accountability.
  6. Perform preventive maintenance on plant equipment, including motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines, following manuals and specifications.
  7. Handle boiler operation, maintenance, and recordkeeping to ensure safety and efficiency.
  8. Maintain ammonia refrigeration systems.
  9. Identify and resolve mechanical issues using testing instruments, and assist in root cause analysis.
  10. Adjust devices and control instruments with hand tools and measurement instruments.
  11. Perform welding (MIG, TIG, and stick) on various metals, including stainless steel, steel, and aluminum.
  12. Use resources efficiently, anticipate needs, and prevent downtime.
  13. Train and assist operators and peers in maintenance and problem-solving.
  14. Monitor and document maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
  15. Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for repairs and parts.
  16. Assist in maintenance projects, upgrades, and modifications.
  17. Participate in meetings and suggest improvements.
  18. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts as a team member.
  19. Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  20. Pass on ongoing issues and repairs to next shift personnel.
  21. Participate in the Emergency Response program.
  22. Assist in training new employees.
  23. Follow all safety, quality, and GMP policies, reporting nonconformities.
  24. Perform other duties as assigned.
