The mechanic will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining fleet road equipment, including tractors, trailers, thermo-king units, converter dollies, and maintenance vehicles. The role includes ensuring compliance with all state and federal trucking regulations, documenting repairs, maintaining maintenance logs, and performing road rescue as needed.

This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible for the DoD SkillBridge Internship. The service member must be within the last 12 months of their active-duty contract. This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Troubleshoot, diagnose, rebuild, replace, and complete repairs on diesel equipment (tractors, trailers, bobtails, reefers, lift gates, etc.).
  2. Perform preventative maintenance within company standards.
  3. Complete documentation of all repair orders, PM lists, and parts used.
  4. Handle road service calls and perform road rescue/transport as needed.
  5. Log repairs and maintenance activities in the Shop Fax system.
  6. Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to safety regulations and guidelines.
  7. Manage inventory and recordkeeping.
  8. Support other maintenance shop personnel as needed.
  9. Willingness to assume increased responsibilities and obtain certifications.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of verifiable hands-on experience as a heavy-duty diesel or reefer mechanic, or 2 years of experience with Diesel Mechanic Certification, TK/Carrier Refrigeration Certification, or both.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and solve problems.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs.

Additional requirements:

  • Must furnish own personal hand tools.
  • CDL A and DOT certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to comply with EPA and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to read and understand technical and service manuals.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Adaptability to changing organizational needs.
  • Computer literacy and software experience.
  • Flexible schedule including nights and weekends; overtime as needed.
