The mechanic will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining fleet road equipment including tractors, trailers, thermo-king units, converter dollies, and maintenance vehicles. The role includes ensuring compliance with all State and Federal trucking regulations, documenting repairs, maintaining maintenance logs, and performing road rescue as needed.

This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible for the DoD SkillBridge Internship. The service member must be within the last 12 months of their active-duty contract. This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship position in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.

The responsibilities include:

  1. Troubleshooting, diagnosing, rebuilding, replacing, and completing repairs on diesel equipment (tractors, trailers, reefers, etc.).
  2. Performing preventative maintenance within company standards.
  3. Completing documentation for repair orders, PM lists, and parts accountability.
  4. Handling road service calls and performing road rescue/transport as needed.
  5. Logging repairs and maintenance activities.
  6. Maintaining a clean and safe work environment in compliance with safety regulations.
  7. Managing inventory and recordkeeping.
  8. Providing backup to other maintenance personnel.
  9. Assuming increased responsibilities and certifications as needed.
  10. Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include:

  • At least 3 years of verifiable hands-on experience as a heavy-duty diesel or reefer mechanic, or 2 years with relevant certifications.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in administering preventive maintenance programs.

Additional requirements:

  • Own personal hand tools.
  • CDL A and DOT certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of EPA and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, and ability to work overtime.
